Just getting started here as I check out megadon vs. mastodon. I gave up hosting my own instance - too lonely out there right now.

But does it really matter if you only have a few people in your instance when we've got #fediverse and can follow anyone across #instances? 🤔 And you can find like-minded or interesting people with #hashtags.

I just moved here to #megadon and it doesn't feel that different from mastodon.cloud since I'm still following the same people.

#Follow the right people. And #mute or #block the bad ones. 😉

Federated is good but it makes it harder to find things. Searching across instances is fairly delicate.

The other issue is starting up. Where is anyone? How does this work? Same problem with Twitter in the early days.

The answer: #hashtags ☝️

But few people use it. Try to remember to use hashtags when you toot. So even if you can't find them, they'll find you.

That's also why doing #introductions is useful. Just make sure your #interests are hashtagged.

And some people, you find them and they find you because you're awake and online at around the same time. #timezones #chronotype

Another thing I do is #mute tooters who only toot in #languages I don't speak. That cleans up my #fediverse feed. 👍
