The Vice President of India???

With two women MPs asking to speak as the discussion on the Arms Amendment Bill, 2019 was wrapping up on Tuesday evening, the Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu remarked that he thought women did not need firearms and that others would protect them.

“In my opinion, women don’t need firearms, others will protect you,” he said.

Women don’t need firearms: Venkaiah Naidu

Others will protect them, Rajya Sabha Chairman tells MPs

@musafir Sometimes I rub my eyes in disbelief when I read statements like this. What kind of shit are these guys smoking?
@wabbster stuff from Kailaasa
@musafir Vaporised Gaumutra.
@wabbster 🤣 shows the RSS in the heart.
@musafir Did he really say that? How patriarchy is deeply ingrained in our society that even the most educated ones carry this mindset. It is such a norm that men themselves don't realise when are they indulging in casual misogyny.
@musafir Compare the US n India, we are moving on the same lines. Am not joking. Pls compare the 2 megalomaniac. Same thing
@KayKap @musafir just read that Trump is declaring jews as a nationality and not a religion is more or less the same thing
@Jungekatz @musafir that was on Thursday. His interning ppl from poorer Latin American countries is also part of the same malaise
Americans have protested using the slogan Not Again. Never Again. I think we also need support the ICLU in addition to the legal fraternity and the Lawyers collective.

@KayKap @musafir A few equations that I had proposed in a conversation in 2016. I got jumped on from all directions for this.
Trump = Modi - Cow
US = India + Media spine
US - MAGA = India - HKMH (politically speaking)
Trump + Hindi = Modi and Modi + English = Trump

#justsaying

@KayKap @musafir
And then there was this one where at any given point on a sophistication continuum depending on the issue at stake, this holds true...
@Samyukth @musafir we are moving akin to the US. Initially esp with the asylum seekers protests were limited to certain quarters. It is only now that members of the admin.../ser vices are coming fwd n impeachment is well under way. We are going 2do the same. Call up our reps harass them if need be. Tell them we r not returning them to parl. But u know we got complacent in the 70 yrs of Congress r freedoms weren't impinge this way. We 4got how 2 protest. We need 2 relearn. We got secure.1/n

We got complacent! We had it good, those of us that were born in Independent India. The left still protested, kept up the practice, the rest of us got soft. We grew depending on the Gov't to keep us safe, free as enshrined in the preamble. India & Indians must reinvent themselves if we want 2 survive & prosper. As a 1st, we look @ link between bans & biz affected by those bans & ownership of those. affected biz & their ownership. We need 2 strike on all fronts now... 2/n

@Samyukth @musafir

3/n We learnt 2 abide by laws because they protected us. There is much 2 thank congress 4; but there's much to blame 2; Blame it 4 us not needing 2 protest, there4 not knowing how. Blame it 4 progress that got us comfy knowing we would 1 days be a leading economy. Blame it 4 inclusiveness becoz it left BJP with only 1 plank, divisiveness, that its parent learnt 2 well @ British Knees...

We, U & me need 2 get out on the streets protesting, but how many really will?

@Samyukth @musafir

@KayKap @Samyukth @musafir

bjpee didn't have to be TAUGHT divisiveness. They adopted it long ago, in their hatred of Gandhi, Nehru & the rest in varying degrees. Coz they can't stand intellectuals, modern culture, polish. Coz they hate minorities. Coz they prefer to cling on ancient times, that they believe were better.

That they have no grip over modernity is true.

Bottom line is, of course, just how many Asoms & Tripura & Kashmirs will call the bluff!

@Samyukth these make a lot more sense than those sitting and gracing the positions of power with filth and hate.

@KayKap

@Samyukth @KayKap @musafir

Modi, to me, seems far worse off than Trump.

Trump often indulges in theatrics aimed at provoking, with his antics often bordering on idiocy and driven by an absolute lack of understanding of underlying issues.

Modi, on the other hand, seems to be far more intelligent. His thoughts and words and actions appear to be deeply rooted in hatred, very effectively aimed at manipulating the masses by creating this fear of the ‘other’ that he alone can save them from.

@priyankasingh Trump also seems and it has been rumored to be medically unwell. Modi is not
@Samyukth @musafir
So we need to ask ourselves what is it that we did to deserve him. Maybe once we have that answer we can come up with a solution against him... Root Cause Analysis... will that work, do you think? @priyankasingh @Samyukth @musafir

@KayKap @Samyukth @musafir

One thing I can think of- Displacement of blame for all our problems on an ‘other’ is something we as a society seem to revel in. This fear of the other is something that RSS has since forever - and now BJP and it’s affiliates are playing - played upon. Like the two minutes hate that Orwell writes about in 1984- which can be switched from one object to another like the flame of a blow lamp.

@KayKap @Samyukth @musafir how to combat this?

1. Keep learning to engage, understand, and empathise. Encourage those around us to do the same.

2. Keep listening and keep learning to listen.

3. Create information campaigns to counter the misinformation being propagated.

4. Keep the hope and faith and belief alive. 🎈

@KayKap @Samyukth @musafir A friend recently suggested this- While engaging with those holding opposite views, we tend to dismiss theirs and place ours higher on moral/humanitarian grounds. Why not engage them in questions instead of statements, to try figure where they are coming from? Maybe direct them to that which can appeal to them in ways that our words can’t. Music, books, movies, documentaries, reports of actual sufferings and impact of actions grounded in thoughts similar to theirs.
@priyankasingh Go ahead try.. Have done and am still doing it and should admit have had to take recourse to cold water splashes... The one constant refrain is but we won't go there... that was them, this is us... @Samyukth @musafir

@KayKap @Samyukth @musafir

Can only help remind all. Holocaust did not begin with Gas Chambers. It began with hate speech. It began with the powers that be dividing people between us and them. It began when people stopped caring.

@priyankasingh Preaching to the converted and aware
@Samyukth @musafir

@KayKap Converted would imply that at some point we were on a different side, no?

@priyankasingh @musafir

@Samyukth Could also imply that at some point we were sitting on the fence @priyankasingh @musafir
@priyankasingh I don't know if your ancestors have seen the horrors of partition. Mine have.. so the pain is known and since it is my parents generation that went through it we have heard the stories, seen the impact... still hear them... the laments.. @Samyukth @musafir

@priyankasingh Reminds me of this quote “You think evil is going to come into your houses wearing big black boots. It doesn’t come like that. Look at the language. It begins in the language.” – Joseph Brodsky, exiled Russian poet

@KayKap @musafir

@Samyukth @KayKap @musafir definitely making a placard on this! 🎈

@KayKap @musafir

Both are RW. No difference.
Both support each other too, playing to the gallery.
Lol... RW lowlifes actually cut cakes here in India on Trump's birthday.. 😂
