Following @rafu's thread on #coffee, I ground a clove, six cardamom seeds (NOT pods), and some freshly scraped vanilla seeds with my coffee. The vanilla got lost in the mix (too mild, or too little of it), but the clove and cardamom are quite nice. They are strongest in the aroma, but do come through in the flavor as well!

@kasshelfant #Vanilla is a favorite of mine, though expensive (for the best result, do NOT mix w/other spices). #Cinnamon is another obvious choice.

To get the most out of a limited amount, I add whole #spices to cold water in a pot, bring it to a boil, then use it all (water+spices) to brew #coffee in a #FrenchPress.

@rafu @kasshelfant I hadn't thought about adding it to the boil water. I usually grind my #coffee. Then grind my #spices in a mortar. Mix and use either the machine or the aeropress.

@awinter Ah, I wish I had a mortar for my spices! Have you tried brewing coffee in an #ibrik? It's stupid simple and adding ground spices exactly the way you describe is traditional to many areas.

@rafu @kasshelfant

Ohh the #ibrik looks cool. B-day present for myself!

@awinter @kasshelfant You need a way to grind your coffee VERY finely, though (finer than espresso ground). Or shops that'll grind it for you.
