Nobody knows why these specific GeoCities web pages - 237 total - all vanished on the same day in 1999. But when they suddenly reappeared exactly 20 years later, they were... clearly not under the control of their original creators. As the world's foremost Paranormal Webmistress, it's your job to find out who - or what - is behind this.
(im not actually making this game, just an idea i had in the shower)
The fun thing about this idea is that you could hire a large roster of writers / designers with very differentb styles, a la Where The Water Tastes Like Wine, to create a lot of the pages and then inject your own (as the principal dev) corrupting influence via the altered pages as you added the main mystery threads.
Anyways feel free to run with any of that if you think it's cool and have more money / time / mental health than me.
@jplebreton :O I want to be a Paranormal Webmistress please
@jplebreton I love this! May I wrote about it in my newsletter? Credited/anon?
@Danhon please feel free! credited would be fine
@jplebreton thank you! I worked with a team designing a haunted-internet alternate realty game about 16 years ago, so this was a nice reminder of how much potential there is in the genre :)
@jplebreton love this so so so much but lack the energy to run it. hereby volunteering to create a weird geocities page to contribute if someone else takes the wheel
@jplebreton this feels *VERY MUCH* like a work for Annabel Scheme. What do you say, @robin?
@jplebreton
I gotta ask, who noticed the reappearance of Geocities sites and cared enough to report it?
