I'm sure I'm projecting here, but I'm a bit overwhelmed imagining the potential melancholy of someone like Susskind who, at 78 years old, is still pushing a field forward, but can be certain now that there are deep new kinds of understanding—some surely derived from his own contributions!—that he's going to miss. 💀
This stuff is so mind-bending and—well that's not actually true. My mind can't bend this way; it's more like I am considering the possibility that other minds might, and THAT's what's impressive.
