Last week I started wondering whether #HOTP #MFA (and by extension TOTP) are #zeroknowledge #zeroknowledgeproof. I couldn't find an immediate answer, but even more, there were very few results combining these two topics. So I did my own research and evaluation.

Still looking into this. So far, I seem to be able to prove all #zeroknowledgeproof properties. A physical world analogy isn't hard to think of either.

I am not sufficiently familiar with the subtleties to know whether I'm missing something, so will need to spend a bit of time familiarizing myself with the intricate details of ZKP.

Not sure if there even are any. 😅

I'm starting to think I might be right on this. This started as a brain fart after a walk this evening.

The only thing I can think of is that there is no real "commitment" other than the implicit assumption that both know the same secret. AFAICT, all zero-knowledge proof properties hold.

There is weirdly little information on the internet that combines these two topics.

The thing is: there _are_ better solutions out there to verify age online without compromising #privacy (and I'm disappointed by the #EFF complaining, but not proposing alternative solutions).
