The realization that my back isn't what it used to be, multiple long planned trips, the existence of ultralight hiking gear (#ZPacks et al), and my credit card is ... risky. Very risky.
Wondering if anyone in #Berlin has a #ZPacks Arc Haul (or Zip) backpack of any size I could take a look at?
Ideally it'd be in my size (medium belt, large back), but I'd be interested in any model. I'd like to try the carrying system.
That's an *expensive* order without having laid eyes on it in person before :)
Hmmm the #ZPacks Arc Haul looks like it could be a massively lower weight upgrade to my Deuter Air Contact Pro, saving almost 3kg(!!!).
That ... might be worth the cost to me, tbh. My back isn't getting any better, and I've got at least 4 weeks where I'll be living out of it next year alone.
Does anyone know where those can be evaluated in #Germany? Any other contenders?
Home away from home for an Algonquin Park visit. It always amazes me how hiking, paddling, and more can be so restorative.
I often second guess myself about gear. Which cameras? Which lenses? Sometimes I worry I'm hauling too much stuff, tiring myself out, and that's less fun. I sometimes regret not having it when I see something really neat.
There's some neat pictures, I think. More soon!

Still on the trail for purchasing a new tent. Some of the ZPacks are candidates, but I still have questions:
- How well they hold up in wind?
- Because they are cooler, would one now need something warmer to sleep in? I.e lighter tent -> heavier sleeping bag/quilt.
A lot of people who rave about them tend to be thru-hikers, with access to reasonable sites to pitch a tent. If I look for where I would normally use a 3-season tent, the terrain tend to be uneven, stoney or clumps of stingy mountain grass.
I am tempted, but not convinced yet.
