Someone explain to me why prior authorization denials for life-altering medications (which has been approved & life changing for years already) is a thing.

This medication makes me a psuedo-functional human being. Without it, I am lost. I will spiral, flare and become angry, delusional and legally unable to drive.

What gives an insurance company to right to pull that rug as it pleases? It's impossible to buy out of pocket.
