Feeling this super hard. https://spookygirl.boo/notes/ag59opuknngr4mm7

I have a big but vague vision in my head for making something awesome for my #wwv time decoder, but I got it to the point where I can prove to myself that it works, then lost all motivation. https://mastodon.social/@noleli/115582310269684373

In the past I’ve been able to serve as my own developer, designer, and project manager for some personal projects. That isn’t coming together for me now.

Decoding a #WWV time signal from an #SDR with the #WebAudio API!

It’s very rudimentary and not very robust to noise so I wasn’t able to capture a video till now even though I had it working months ago. (Video at 4×)

I recently discovered my 20+ year-old radio receiver still works, and this has reinvigorated my interest in getting my #hamradio license. Also want to experiment with #SDR because waterfall displays 🤩.

In the past I mostly used this receiver for aviation comms, but I wanted to branch out to some other bands so tried #WWV. I'm about 60 miles south of the antennae sites, but only hear static on all five freqs. Is this because the stock rubber ducky antenna is inadequate for HF?

I just did this *again*. Ugh.

This time, spent weeks (mostly in the background) confused about why my #wwv decoder was working with a media element source but not a user media source. https://mastodon.social/@noleli/113013249924305520

Working on my #wwv decoder. So far I seem to have a reasonable (though far from ideal, I’m sure) way of calculating a dynamic pulse threshold and am successfully reading the every-10-second position pulses.

Maybe a niche question, but... does anyone else notice that https://time.gov's live time readout is slightly desynchronized from #WWV? The latency compensation doesn't seem to work very well -- it is up to 3/4 second "off" between different computers and browsers, and differs from atomic truth by at least this much, which is much worse than I was expecting.

#WWVB is currently operating "indefinitely" at reduced power on a single antenna, rather than full power on two antennas, due to wind damage from 90+ MPH gusts.
