When #MayorPete was arguing about #EV vs ICE vehicle efficiency (starting around 3:15), it's too bad he didn't have the power generation efficiencies of different kinds of fossil generation plants easily at hand. It would've been a slam dunk.

coal: 32% efficient
That article doesn't mention oil but I don't think there are many oil burning power plants left these days.
Then there are transmission & distribution losses
I do appreciate Rep #Westerman 's point about stacking inefficiencies but we can play that game with gasoline, too. It doesn't magically appear as 87 octane gas at the station. The raw material has to be extracted, that's inefficient. It has to be transported, inefficient. It has to be refined multiple times, inefficient. It has to be transported again, inefficient. Then when it's burned in an ICE it's at best 30% efficient. EVs still win.
