Earlier this week, Wabush Airport faced disrupted services over its runway centrelines being limited by 10 feet, halting some traffic. While it was soon resolved, Labrador MP Philip Earle says work is underway to resolve problems at the airport.

Un bon article de Patrick Butler sur certains des enjeux des villes de Labrador City et Wabush devant l'expansion annoncée de l'activité minière (mines de fer).

Plus de mines = plus de travailleurs = plus de logements = plus d'électricité (et ça bloque).

Ce qui se joue entre autres : maintenir et développer les communautés présentes, sans miser seulement sur le fly-in fly-out.

Pourquoi évoquer LabCity et Wabush ici ? J'y ai travaillé en 2021-2022 - non dans l'activité minière, mais à l'Association francophone du Labrador. Une découverte de l'intérieur du Nord canadien, de la réalité de l'activité minière fondamentale pour l'économie du pays, d'une province anglophone, d'une communauté francophone minoritaire... et d'un hiver qui s'étend de fin octobre à mai.

La situation est différente dans les villes voisines de #labradorcity et #wabush (où j'ai résidé 1 an 1/2 pour raisons pro) : les maisons ne reviennent pas aux minières. Reste la question de l'accompagnement des populations aînées, un défi dans le #nord canadien.
