I am gradually grinding my way through Void Stranger because a friend is really desperate for me to get whatever it is that is supposed to be good about this game.
Talking to her about it is already tense enough so for now I'm just going to ask here: how do I know when I've seen whatever the thing is I need to see to "get" it? Is there a big turning point coming where the game's brilliance reveals itself and all the misery of getting there potentially becomes worth it, or have I effectively reached that point already and turned my nose up at it?
For reference I have found the three Burdens in the first run, figured out some stuff I can do by rodding the HUD, and restarted the game as the younger girl and encountered the even more oppressive puzzles.
