I'm generally not a fan of growing "international varieties" in #Italy when Italy has so many #indigenous #vinifera #wine #grape varieties ... but it's hard to look at this map of the #NorthernRhone relative to #Piedmont and the #AostaValley and NOT wonder about the #CoolClimate — while it lasts, anyway — possibilities for just one international grape exception in particular ...

We associate #Bordeaux with red wine. But 60 years ago approx 58% of the #vinifera vineyard area was white! #Sémillon was the most widely planted variety, followed by #Merlot, #Malbec (!) and the Cabernets (#CabernetFranc & #CabernetSauvignon together). Also, Hybrids accounted for 25% of Bordeaux vines.
