Update: A Trump-appointed commission has approved the design for the Trump gold coin, which will allow the U.S. Mint to start production. “As we approach our 250th birthday, we are thrilled to prepare coins that represent the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, and there is no profile more emblematic for the front of such coins than that of our serving President, Donald J. Trump,” U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach said in a statement." Here's more from @AssociatedPress.

Most people here in the U.S. still refuse to understand and accept the true nature and full extent of the unbridled evil we face regardless of the clearly and explicitly stated goals and actions.

Greed, power, and ego defines Trump, his entire administration, and everyone who enables, supports, or abides him.

US Mint takes down video of meeting criticizing proposed Trump 24K gold coin

A coin advisory committee called the design for the America 250 coin something only produced by "kings or dictators."

The Handbasket

U.S. President Donald Trump wants the U.S. Mint to produce a 24-karat gold commemorative coin bearing his image as part of the celebrations for America's 250th anniversary. This was discussed by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) and the conversation was featured on the Mint's official YouTube channel. In it, members of the non-partisan design committee were critical of the idea, with acting chair Donald Scarinci saying: "Only those nations ruled by kings or dictators display the image of their sitting ruler on the coins of the realm." Now, Marisa Kabas of the Handbasket says the video has been taken down. "The larger message is loud and clear: Dissent will not be tolerated," she writes.

Alex Harring highlights the U.S. Mint's new 250th-anniversary quarters focusing on pilgrims and presidents like Washington and Lincoln, dropping earlier civil rights themes such as Frederick Douglass and Ruby Bridges. This shift sidelines important abolition and suffrage symbols. I am already mourning the loss of the penny because I'm thinking about certain customer interactions that will become obsolete. No longer will I be able to quip with dad-joke-level comments when a customer donates two cents for future customer usage: Thank you for giving me your two cents. Or, when one penny drops into the change tray---my register makes change for coins--"Don't go spending it all in one place." #Penny #USMint
