I have never attended Up Helly Aa, although we did sail up and around Shetland two years ago. But I was reminded by this article and an extremely amusing (he pokes fun at everyone but in a very gentle way) program by Mark Steel from Lerwick, with an accompanying one from Unst. Highly listenable.

Scotland's most northerly castle, Muness Castle on the island of Unst in Shetland. It was built from 1598 by Laurence Bruce, a deeply unpopular Sheriff of Shetland. Continuing to share favourite images from my 30+ year photographic career. One more from a favourite project; ‘The Magic of the Scottish Islands’, 2000 and 2001. This is at Hermaness on Unst, the most northerly of the Shetland Islands. At times during this day I was the most northerly person in the British Isles.

Muness Castle is a late 16th century tower house on #Unst, the northmost island of #Shetland.

(I miss Shetland, but it's a long way away from Tasmania. Although closer than London.)
