UPDATE: While I may not be able to use this as evidence ov "frequent usage", I still want to have an idea ov how many people might want this emoji, so I've created a custom URL: https://www.change.org/Sideways-Thumb-for-Unicode.

Hello, people ov Mastodon!

Question: if there was a thumbs-to-the-side emoji added to Unicode (the standard for most digital text*), would you use it? (Would you have used it by this point in time already?)

If so, consider signing my petition to get it added: https://www.change.org/p/get-sideways-thumb-emoji-added-to-unicode.

I've revisited the Emoji spec to improve the Ruby Emoji regex. At some point they added their own suggestion for a (quite) simple regex. While it matches some undesired things (like simple digits), it's pretty concise:

/(?:\p{RI}{2}|\p{Emoji}(?:\p{EMod}|️⃣?|[󠀠-󠁾]+󠁿)?)(?:‍(?:\p{RI}{2}|\p{Emoji}(?:\p{EMod}|️⃣?|[󠀠-󠁾]+󠁿)?))*/

@timbray I am in the #Unicode community (I helped a little on the #Unicode16 #PDF production). This sort of feedback is stronger directly from readers like you, via the form at https://corp.unicode.org/reporting/error.html . Sorry for the slow reply; I just noticed your post.

I just saw that #Unicode16 is coming out (https://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/Unicode-16.0/U160-1CC00.pdf) can't wait to toy with it. It contains nice glyphs for space invaders and pac man and more. #Unicode #retro #terminal #games

so the #unicode16 that just dropped also includes a whole set of these bad bois and i think it's wonderful

right now a way to display a #pianoroll in a #terminal is to use upper half block ▀ and lower half block ▄ and represent 2 pitches per terminal line

and i havent even ported this to quadrants and sextants but now they've added OCTANTS fuck yeah zoom out
