The 1911 election was fought over #tariffs - #Canada's tariffs on trade with the #USA. The Original #CPC said free trade would weaken ties with the #UK and lead to the country being annexed by the #US. It was a winning argument at the time.

More important, however, was the argument over creating a #Navy in support of the UK in its #ArmsRace with #Germany. The #LPC supported creation, the CPC opposed.
