@Beth 'cause they will not receive the amplification they want here. at least not without a ton of work. so probably you're right they might just skip it and stay on #twitbook. shouting at the wind.

@Beth this is why i left #twitbook in 2017. The algorithm. I think when those big players arrive, not if, when they arrive, they will be unhappy and angsty without artificial amplification. It will be interesting watching their struggle to adapt. Many will leave in a huff, only to return 'cause the alternatives are boring and fake.

watching another influx to the #fediverse. please understand that this place is different by design. the #ActivityPub protocol is the engine. we are all drivers. it is not a closed commercial monolithic systems before asking for a feature, please consider that maybe it was left out on purpose. some interfaces might look like #twitbook, but the plumbing, the protocol, is radically different. the philosophy that drives all of this is radically different as well. it will take time for these differences to sink in. give it time. #mastodon isn't going anywhere, the other players are - the dustbin of history.

Yeah. No. #twitbook isn’t easier. Just familiar. The mental effort required to constantly selectively ignore ads, trolls, bots and all-caps QT shouts to actually follow a conversation is exhausting. Why choose this? The victimized shouldn’t have to defend their abusers. Yet here we are with another false narrative. Another manipulation. Post does not equal ActivityPub, never will. Different underlying philosophy leads to different results. Why persist with false equivalence?

Several times over the last few weeks, as I’ve been using #birdsite more to wrap things up, I’ve been surprised see ads in my #mastodon TL. Then I remember, oh yeah, this place. I’ve been off #twitbook for 6 years. Soon, all will find ads and sponsored content as disruptive and distracting. Or not. :)

Interesting how our social expectations and nuanced interactions have been blunted by #twitbook. Who is willing to take responsibility? Is our public square for bullhorns only? Nope. Not me. I left 6 years ago. Non-participant status. I and other #opensource advocates and developers have been over here working on the solution. History will see the failed monolithic commercial model as a costly unfortunate sidebar. A distraction at best. Stagnant hegemony at worst.
