This strategy may indeed work for American liberals, as it has for the reactionaries.

But #triggerLaws are a grotesque perversion of the democratic process and of good governance. A bill should be required to adhere to the current understanding of the constitution, not to some speculative hope about constitutional change.

That way, a Bill can be properly scrutinised by the generation which has to live with its provisions.

#TriggerLaws are intergenerational legal #landmines. Ban them!
