Midsouth and South US trans people:

Vanderbilt is closing their gender affirming surgery program according to a message I got this morning.

They said they’d complete my staged process, so I assume that means they will for everyone, but this is a huge blow.

Not sure if they are closing all their gender affirming care or just surgery as I only have my surgery done there.

i guess oxycodone isn’t vegan. i’m getting a couple of surgeries fairly soon and will definitely need painkillers - is there anyone here who’s looked into this? alternatives?

So the clinic I've asked to get a referral to for bottom surgery says that hair removal before the surgery is optional; they'll cauterize hairs during the procedure.

Does anyone have any experience with this procedure without doing hair removal? Especially if you did it at GRS Montreal.

What are the chances of hairs being missed and ending up growing internally? And what would the process look like to correct that if it happened?

I am having so much fucking anxiety just to ask if my electrolysis place will do it, yet alone actually going through with it.

Thanks!

This is a long shot, but I figured I would toss this out to #transfediverse:

Has anyone heard of any GRS surgeons doing vaginoplasty on patients with a BMI over 40? I’m talking someone who is specifically specialized in doing the procedure for fat women. My therapist believes this should be possible, but I’ve never heard of anyone that does it.

Erin In The Morning
Attached is my healing progress at 6 weeks post op. Photos taken prior to my first dilation session.

At this point I’m dilating 3x a day with the first 3 dilators (purple-green).

Activity: my activity restrictions were lifted at my post-op appointment last week. I feel great and in general am not experiencing any pain. Walking feels like, well walking. Sitting without a doughnut is fine on on padded seats (even lightly padded). Haven’t been brave enough to try a hard chair yet. Sitting without the doughnut can be a little uncomfortable if there isn’t much padding, but doesn’t hurt.

Side sleeping had been permitted since week 3, but is now actually comfortable and back to my default position.

Discharge has greatly reduced since my appointment. I suspect this is due to a combination of me using less lube now as well as the treatment taken for the granulation. I’m still on the hydrocortisone cream twice a day to help with the little remaining.

Catching up? Big recovery write up I made at about 3weeks:

Today's appointment went well!

My new bits are healing well and as expected. I have some granulation around the canal entrance, which we had already started treating earlier this week with Hydrocortisone cream, and some at the end canal. This was further treated today with
scissors (Cutting the excess tissue near the entrance) and silver nitrate at both locations. The hydrocortisone cream will be continued for another few weeks.

My clitoris is also healing and definitely does have sensation already. There is some tissue that will eventually sludge off, but to help speed that up will be keeping gauze on it for the next week or two, changing it when I go to the restroom. She got that gauze packed up under my hood tightly! Definitely felt that sting. Then when I took it out to change, dang, yep, felt that too.

My activity restrictions were also lifted. I'm allowed to return to normal physical activity levels and exercise. I'm also allowed to swim in chlorinated or salt water pools(But not anything like the ocean, streams, or lakes).

I'm also allowed to start having non-oral sex and masturbation, including with toys and vibrators. This was actually encouraged.

Dilation is down to 3x/day, purple-green still. Orange doesn't get added for another 6 weeks.

Overall was good and I'm healing well.

Edit: How could I forget? I'm also allowed to start progesterone back up! This was stopped due to the potential of it's mood effects causing worse post-op depression.
Ok. So tried to do a write up of the last 3 weeks in regards to my post-op experience. I'll try to periodically update this page as warranted. My hope is that this will be useful or encouraging to someone else out there.
