Walking along, I saw this tree. It looks mostly dead, perhaps entirely dead, but it has these thorns coming from it, and they have some greenery attached of associated with it.
So ... are the thorns part of a parasitical organism? Or ... is something else going on?
Does anyone recognise this? I'm in the North West of England.

Found in my pocket after throwing a bunch of them in the woodchipper. Another one I pulled out of my boot with pliers, leaving a nice hole there.
