Non ci sono prove di un programma iraniano finalizzato alla costruzione di armi nucleari. Grossi ha spiegato a Nbc News che l’agenzia non ha identificato “elementi di un programma sistematico e strutturato per la produzione di armi nucleari” in Iran. Allo stesso tempo, però, ha confermato che Teheran ha arricchito l’uranio al 60% di purezza, un livello ben oltre il fabbisogno energetico civile. Un livello di arricchimento che “solo i Paesi dotati di armi nucleari hanno”, ha sottolineato.
Nonostante questo comunque gli ispettori non hanno potuto concludere che l’Iran ha intenzione di costruire una bomba, ma ha affermato che l’accumulo di scorte solleva seri interrogativi. Questo arricchimento, ha aggiunto, era “la fonte delle nostre preoccupazioni” e non c’era “nessun obiettivo chiaro” per accumulare materiale a quel livello. “Le centrifughe giravano costantemente e producevano sempre più materiale”, ha detto, aggiungendo che teoricamente questo sarebbe stato “sufficiente per produrre più di 10 testate nucleari. Ma le hanno? No”, ha specificato.
