Has anyone made or seen a recent (<~2y) survey/review of co-op run data backup options? North America preferred. I'm redoing my home data backup strategy (including digitized media), and I'd like to give strong preference to co-op ownership structures over something investor-focused. Since this is for backup/recovery, general cloud storage is an option but may be more than I need.

Links to individual co-ops okay, but a survey or review of several is better.

The sudden and unexpected shuttering of mtrx.nz and peertube.nz in the last couple of weeks is a stark reminder of how ephemeral community-hosted services can be. In the absence of third options, people are stuck with technical infrastructure offered either by corporations, or by informal group of volunteers. Who have every right to walk away at any time, leaving the people hosted on their servers scrambling for a replacement.
