I had two instances during the last weeks in which web dev and design magazines featured Israeli authors, one even stating they were in the IDF.

(First, you know the facts: Israel and its military are responsible for the displacement of millions of Palestinian and Lebanese people, the death of tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people—civilians—, and wars on several Muslim countries.)

I contacted both magazines and asked for a statement. No response.

Until they comment on their position especially wrt to the genocide on Palestinians and how they protect the wider community, both magazines are not being attributed anymore on Frontend Dogma. More steps may follow.

Featuring people who are supportive of or even complicit in war crimes is not a joke and not acceptable.

That guy who keeps popping up in your mentions to tell you that you're overreacting to the latest systemd kerfuffle? That would be this guy. Never forget that.

🇵🇸 @small-tech/cross-platform-hostname module deprecated

https://www.npmjs.com/package/@small-tech/cross-platform-hostname

The release of version 1.1.0 deprecates and removes support for this small module that normalised hostname reporting between Linux/macOS and Windows.

We no longer support Windows as Microsoft is complicit in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people¹ and Small Technology Foundation² stands in solidarity with the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement³.

Windows is an ad-infested and surveillance-ridden dumpster fire of an operating system and, alongside supporting genocide, you are putting both yourself and others at risk by using it.

When supporting Linux/macOS, just use the built-in os.hostname() method which works the same way on both platforms.

@small-tech/cross-platform-hostname

Cross platform version of os.hostname() that returns the full computer name (including the primary DNS prefix) on Windows so you can write code that relies on the hostname (e.g., automatic TLS certificate provisioning) that will also work on Windows.

All our tech topics get so, so small and unimportant when you consider that hundreds of thousands of people are FORCED to play Squid Game in an area of 365 km².

Up to 335,000 people have already been killed, and we should look at the higher numbers b/c it never helps the dying if people want to be “more correct” by broadcasting a smaller number.

To help someone in a matter of life or death, you assume the WORST.

"... companies like Uber typically want to grab and hold as much data as they can. When, in 1975, [Stafford] Beer argued that 'information is a national resource', he was ahead of his time in treating the question of ownership—just who gets to own the means of data production, not to mention the data?—as a political issue that cannot be reduced to its technological dimensions."

Okay this is interesting: he's telling his buddy that he uses an RSS reader (I think?) to aggregate from thousands of news sources. He says he reads the headlines and then reads some of the "trustworthy" articles to get more information.

Clearly, he's subscribed to some whacko stuff. If you're designing an RSS or news reader, consider this guy and how you could help bring him back to reality or help prevent his radicalization in the first place.
