Piles of by-the-wind sailors (velella velella) washed up on the beach at Kalaloch. These little marine animals live on the ocean’s surface and move at the mercy of the wind. When storms hit, shifting prevailing winds, Velella can end up stranded on shore where they dry out and die. I’m feeling a bit like one of these creatures this week as political storms blow across my country to threaten my livelihood, actively collapsing my whole sector. I’ll keep looking for beauty and ways we can raft up to keep each other safe until these winds shift for the better, but my goodness it is so brutal!
