🐍🧬 Researchers analyzed the genomes of over 1000 #squamate species to understand the rapid diversification of #snakes.

The findings suggest that snakes evolved up to 3 times faster than #lizards to develop their unique sensory systems and flexible bodies. The shift allowed them to survuve in diverse environments after the loss of their limbs over 100 million years ago.

Rotund #squamate update for #SnakeSaturday - the plant I believed she could not topple has, in fact, been toppled. It has now been tied to a chair for increased stability (both the #snake and the plant are fine). I am currently attempting to snake-proof my living room so she can roam freely 24/7 but it’s not 100% there yet.

The rotund #squamate has been quite active recently!
