This is the Perito Moreno glacier in Patagonia One of the most breathtaking world wonders I have ever seen I felt the majesticness in every inch of my body, shivers down my spine It's part of the third largest sweet water reservoir in the world, after Antarctica and Greenland. Between 2018 and 2022, the glacier was thinning at a rate of 4 metres a year. But in the past two years, that has doubled to 8 metres annually. Exponentially, this beauty is falling prey to man-made global warming The glacier resisted global warming for more than a century but has now lost almost two square kilometres of ice in seven years. Scientists now call the trend potentially irreversible. The glacier can no longer match the heat. The ice that once anchored itself to the lakebed has become buoyant, accelerating its retreat and amplifying its own collapse. Recent summers in Patagonia reached record temperatures. Calving events are now louder, larger, and more frequent. This is not an isolated story. The Upsala, Viedma, and now Perito Moreno glacier all follow the same trajectory. It is a visible reminder that the world is losing its frozen reservoirs at a pace faster than predicted. What we choose to do with this knowledge will define the next century. Glaciers respond slowly, but societies do not have that luxury. The retreat is a warning and an invitation at the same time. An invitation to restore landscapes, regenerate ecosystems, and cool the planet from the ground up. Standing face to face with this beauty showed me that climate crisis is not abstract when a wall of ice as big as a 20-story apartment building begins to move and crashes down. 🌍 Regeneration is no longer optional 🌱 Every restored hectare of land counts. Every tree planted helps to cool down the planet. 👉🏼 After two weeks of hard work on the Argentinian island we're regenerating, we took a short break to discover the country before heading back to Europe #regenerative #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #agroecology #regenerativefarming #agroforestry #farming

Chinas 🇨🇳 renewable installments in May are mind boggling! | Erik Solheim

Chinas 🇨🇳 renewable installments in May are mind boggling! Chinese companies installed 93 gigawatt of solar and 27 gigawatt of wind energy in a single month in May. That's about 230 million solar panels and 5300 wind turbines. That's almost 100 solar panels every second, and a wind turbine every 10 minutes. It’s more than nearly all nations have built in their existence. The numbers are simply astonishing. There may have been a little bump ahead of policy changes. But China added 198 gigawatt of solar and 46 gigawatt of wind in the first five months of the year. There is no reason to believe the speed will slow down. Peak coal is reached! When other nations abandon climate leadership, China steps up. Ten years ago solar and wind were too costly to really matter. Now it’s the cheapest energy anywhere. There are strong reasons for climate optimism. For more facts and analysis: Lauri Myllyvirta Sonia Dunlop Global Solar Council (GSC) Ben Backwell Bruce Douglas | 80 comments on LinkedIn

BREAKING: The latest Senate text is out and it not just misguided — it’s a direct attack on American energy, American workers, and American consumers. | Abby Hopper

BREAKING: The latest Senate text is out and it not just misguided — it’s a direct attack on American energy, American workers, and American consumers. SEIA is still working through all the details and I'll share a summary when we have it but one thing is painfully clear: If this bill passes, Americans will pay the price.... literally. Power bills will rise. Factory jobs will vanish. Families will be forced to spend more just to keep the lights on and their homes cool. All while we become more dependent on foreign energy and more vulnerable to blackouts.   Any Senator who votes for this bill is voting for higher energy prices, a weaker economy, and a less secure America. And they’ll have to answer for it when families open their utility bills, when workers lose their paychecks, and when voters head to the polls. Read SEIA’s full statement: https://lnkd.in/ebgd5W88 And send an immediate note to your senators: https://lnkd.in/egp-gFpd | 19 comments on LinkedIn
