This is Cartagena, Colombia from a visit there in 2023. Following Sir Francis Drake's attack on the city in 1586 - an event which led to the creation of the walled city we'd come to explore - he set up home for month until a ransom was paid and it was in this house that he lived.

"325. English author E.F. Benson (1867-1940) had a 1927 biography titled Sir Francis Drake. It's about the English explorer and pirate who lived from circa 1540 to 1596. It was the first of 9 or 10 biographies Benson wrote". Book available at The Faded Page. NY Times had an article about the book in an April 1927 edition of New York Times Book Review. #efbenson #sirfrancisdrake
