The Shompen are one of the most isolated tribes on Earth. They live on Great Nicobar Island in India, and most of them refuse all contact with outsiders.

Numbering between 100 and 400, they are now at risk of being totally wiped out by a “mega-development” plan of the Indian government.

Please tell India’s Tribal Affairs Minister that the project must be scrapped, or the Shompen will be wiped out. 🙏🏼🪷 #petition #indigenoustribe #Shompen #India #pleasesign

The “Great Nicobar Development Plan” represents a deadly threat to the survival of the #Indigenous #Shompen tribe, who have lived on #GreatNicobarIsland since time immemorial.

The transhipment port; township; international airport; power station; defense base; industrial park; and 650,000 settlers will have a devastating impact on four Shompen settlements and utterly transform and destroy the entire basis of the Shompen’s livelihood – their rich rivers and rainforest.
