The sculpture represents the story from the life of Saint Kentigern (who is better known as Saint Mungo, Glasgow's patron saint) where be brought a dead bird belonging to his mentor Saint Serf back to life. This event is also commemorated by the inclusion of a bird on the city's coat of arms.

The Spirit of Saint Kentigern. Created by Neil Livingston, it was originally installed on Buchanan Street in Glasgow in 1977, where it quickly earned the nickname The Blob. In 2000, it was removed and put into storage before re-appearing on the campus of the Glasgow City College in 2017.

Saint Mungo gazing out across Pollokshaws Road from Saint Ninian's Church in Glasgow, with the fish with the ring in its mouth below him, and the remains of a tram rosette (used to support electrical wires for Glasgow's tram system) just to his left. I've often wondered what people made of these being attached to churches when they were first installed at the end of the 19th Century.
