Rothorn, Switzerland

Took the mountain railway from Brienz to Rothorn and had a little walk from the Rothorn station, but not to the summit. The weather was cold and misty, with very limited visibility.

Just rewatched this programme about the Brienz-Rothorn-Bahn (Switzerland's highest steam mountain railway) to get in the mood for one of the things we'll be doing.

Schaut es echt sehr schlimm aus. 😔

Aufgrund der heftigen Gewitter vom Montagabend 12.08.2024, trat der Milibach in Brienz gegen 18:30 Uhr über die Ufer. Das mitgeführte Geschiebe, bestehend aus Stein- und Felsbrocken sowie Holz, führte dazu, dass ein Sammler oberhalb des Dorfes überfüllt wurde und das Geschiebe unkontrolliert in die Dorfteile Seematte, Rybi, Steiner sowie rund um die Kirche floss.

Impressions from a visit to the🇨🇭 #Brienz #Rothorn Bahn in June 2018: this narrow-gauge rack railway is not electrified: steam locomotives are pushing the consists uphill. The oldest loco out that day, number 2, was built in 1891 and is still working trains.

December 2016 was not good for skiing in Berner Oberland, Switzerland. Instead, we chose to climb the Sigriswiler Rothorn (2051m / 6729ft) on the 30th. Good way to end the year with a beautiful hike.
