Another one of my current "practice drawings" - which are intuitive, direct drawings I make whenever I struggle more than usual, and desperately need to reconnect with that powerful and essential experience of drawing (and painting). This one came about quite impromptu, when I was on my way to do something else. But I'd just learnt there was a hurricane coming, and almost simultaneously, I started hearing this encouragingly demanding voice in my head: "Why don't you just draw what you feel, for once?" So that's what I did, even if that scares me - almost as much as the wind does (as well as a million other things). But of course, that's another thing about drawing and painting: it affords us the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with those frightening things, states and events; get to know the monsters a bit. Which is definitely better than not. And so, by the time the winds had calmed, I was done.
