I finished this manga last night. I should not have read it before bed. *Bad juju*

It tells the story of high schoolers going through life crises at pace. The economic situation in their small town has left scars on both them and the town itself. There is a feeling of accepted depravity and hopelessness.

There is a genre of video games I call desperation survivals. This War of Mine is one, Life is Strange 2 is another. Differing play styles and approaches for sure, but the emotional core is one of decline.

This book is that: A vivid look at how thin and fragile civility is, and what happens beyond it.

I'm not sure if I liked it or not, but I've thought about little else since.

A powerful affect. And apparently the mangaka is just like this. Most all her works are in a similar vein.

Middle of Nowhere? Try the Smith House Inn

It was an ill-fated plan that failed along two predictable dimensions. But it was worth investigating. The investigation involved a trip to the middle of nowhere in Pennsytucky where we were surrounded by bikers---well people on bicycles with ridiculous lycra clothing anyway.
