China leads the world in solar power, producing 64% of global utility-scale solar and wind energy. Its massive manufacturing capacity, one terawatt of solar panels annually, has driven costs down to record lows, making solar the cheapest energy source. This boom is transforming global energy markets and posing a major challenge to fossil fuels.

🎵 Everything old [can be] new again 🎵

Rethinking Everything, Everywhere, All at Once can lead to amazing #ClimateChange mitigation solutions based on #ancient #technologies, we don't always have to create entirely new components.

Cost-effective, scalable, and #environmentally friendly storage of #energy generated by #rewnewables remains a problem with which current #batteries still struggle, and l this kinda low-tech alternative may be an answer.

This is so cool! The engineers at MIT discovered that cement and carbon black (paracrystalline carbon) can be mixed to create a supercapacitor that still behaves like cement. That means you can build cement structures that store energy. They estimate that 45 m³ of this material is enough to store 10 kWh (about a day’s worth of energy for a home). “New Breakthrough in Energy Storage – MIT Engineers Create Supercapacitor out of Ancient Materials” https://scitechdaily.com/new-breakthrough-in-energy-storage-mit-engineers-create-supercapacitor-out-of-ancient-materials/

I should also add that I live in #NewJersey where turncoat congresscritter Jeff Van Drew and like-minded cronies are trying to derail offshore #wind projects that Governor Murphy championed. Here's a good article summing up the f*ckery going on. #offshorewind #rewnewables https://www.nj.com/opinion/2023/03/jeff-van-drew-is-telling-a-whale-of-a-tale-sheneman.html?fbclid=IwAR3zeylxN1beJOdxwMMX5O55GqH4OLP8Qq5GNdW7-hGf9tu0wNwIfXmdNOg
