After months of negotiations, we've made the difficult decision to move out of our warehouse. Due to exorbitant rent increases and rising costs, we can no longer afford to run Rewind Sound & Studios in this building.

To be clear: Rewind is moving out - we are not shutting down. We're ready to adapt, and we're going to need our community with us. 💜

I recently rebranded these updates to rewinds instead of weekly rewind to remove the pressure of publishing weekly, yet, I found myself enjoying and spending time on this one. Guess because I'm removing more and more constraints to what and how I put things here. So here we are with a rewind of the previous week.

⏪ Week in rewind

👨‍💻 While I'm happy with Safari on mobile, I've always run into problems with bookmark management and handover from desktop to mobile, as I spend most of my time on a non-Apple device. A bookmark tool like Raindrop could be part of a solution; however, it remains blocked at work for unknown reasons.

Last week, I came to an epiphany to use a browser that supports all my devices and syncs bookmarks and history that way. Likely what many already figured out before 🙄 But anyhow, I went for Firefox/Vivaldi (testing out both) as a simple and lightweight solution, and it had been working rather well.

👟 On Sunday, I went to a close-by local running event with my family. You could even call it a backyard run or a home run as it was that close to where we live. It also added a nice touch of seeing a lot of familiar faces participating. While I was pacing my brother-in-law to reach a sub-45-min time on the 10 km (✔️), my oldest ran the 5 km with his friends. He wasn't tired enough after finishing, so he decided to complete an extra 1 km through a kids' run. Perhaps to get that extra medal. And my youngest did his very first kids' run. I felt so proud I almost had tears.

🍾🍟 We had our cava and fries meet-up with friends. We hosted this one according to our tradition, serving cava and snacks, followed by real Belgian fries at dinner.

🏗️ I've been doing some housekeeping on this blog. Updating my RSS page, creating overview pages for my main items, and adding a guestbook (https://bits.gobino.be/guestbook1). It's not a real guestbook that automatically stores entries, but it's a nice way if anyone wants to leave something publicly.

Pagecord is much more limited towards scripting (vs. Bear, for example), but that is also why I like it. It forces me to focus on creating content, rather than fiddling with add-ons.

We continued watching Berlin, and I followed some matches of the World Cup, but I can't say I'm as excited as I used to be trying to watch as many games as possible.

🎧 Listened

I started using Last.fm (http://last.fm) as a test to understand what I'm listening to and what other music I could discover this way. While my history is definitely not clean, with my sons using the same Spotify account, and the running beats I listen to when doing heavy workouts, I already found some songs & albums worth listening.

Another 3 weeks in rewind, this time published on Pagecord. While I still love Bear, Pagecord is winning me over with its simplicity and convenience, allowing me to write drafts in Obsidian or Drafts and publishing directly onto this blog. I've been experimenting with Pagecord for more than 6 months via microblogging and snapshots. And as I kept it low friction it freed me of a publisher block that I forced upon myself for Bear publishing only something with a meaning.

⏪ Weeks in rewind

- 🚴 Nelson got his belated birthday gift in the form a racing bike, which he was asking for, for such a long time. But as he didn't bike often, and the weather was also not inviting, we postponed it. However, since he got his bike, he wants to use it for everything. School commutes, basketball practice,... In his enthusiasm, I had to get my race bike from under the dust and have a real ride with him (https://bits.gobino.be/b59000aa).

- 🎉 The twins had their birthday and celebrated it with their classmates. We used to do it at home, but they asked to go to an indoor playground so we agreed. I was happy to go to an external location as hosting a party at home always comes with a lot of stress. The indoor playground was a nice change, but as it were almost all boys, the party was quite challenging.
- 🏖️ We had some really hot days in May, so we went to seaside in the Netherlands. Much nicer than our Belgian beaches. You can read a small report on 📷 Shots from the seaside (https://bits.gobino.be/shots-from-the-seaside).
- ⚽ Nelson has his last soccer practice. After 5 years, he wanted something else, and chose basketball. I'll likely miss it more than he (https://gobino.be/ill-miss-soccer-more-than-my-son/) will.
- ⛹️ Nelson had his first basketball game (https://bits.gobino.be/38710a91). And although it was only for practice, it was a feisty one. He was really into it, and I don't think he ever was that tired after a soccer game. I'm looking forward to next season when the real deal starts.
- 🏅 I ran the 20k of Brussels (https://bits.gobino.be/km-6-and-already-negotiating-with-myself) which didn't go according to expectations. No PB, but still a good mental experience, not to give up when things don't go as planned.
- 🎂 We celebrated the twins' birthday at home with the whole family. I really enjoy these moments together, talking and laughing. Also because I get to carry my camera around to take snapshots. This reminds me I still need to download and process these shots. Like many others. 😬
- 🎢 We went to a theme park where I had a scary experience blacking out during a roller coaster ride (https://bits.gobino.be/a-scary-moment-during-a-rollercoaster-ride).
