The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 12 review: Fin

Flashback and the path forward to evolution

I do think it is a bit mean of Lorraine to wish into whatever Rentt will become once he drinks the vial, just because he didn’t tell her everything about him. I get that she is annoyed with him for telling her that is it an unwritten rule amongst adventurers, to talk about their past aka back story. With Rentt it is an interesting one of sorts. As a child he lived in a village called Hathala. It is in the mountains, so very remote. His parents were the ones doing most of the shopping for the village. He has a childhood female friend named Jinlin.

He was 5 when he first stepped foot out of the village. As a child he was very timid, whilst you guessed it, Jinlin had the dream of becoming an adventurer.

The speech that started it all!!

Whilst they were coming back to the village. It is here where I learnt the whole reason why he decided to become an adventurer. The wolf monster attacked the caravan, with both his parents, granny being killed. Jinlin and he fled, however the wolf monster was just toying with them. In a blink of an eye the monster attacked both, however Jinlin sacrificed herself in protecting our main lead. Just then a very powerful adventurer took on the wolf monster, the fight scene was decent I thought. Not too flashy or anything. Upon returning to the village, it is here where the 5 year old Rentt made his decision to become an adventurer, to honour his friend’s dream.

Sod you Rentt, I’m getting smacked by the wolf! This is a sad scene honestly

The adventurer didn’t hold any punches, instead of just saying good luck kid. He actually was the one to instruct and give advice on how to actually be an adventurer. By doing so, he inspired our boi into actually becoming an adventurer. The total amount of years Rentt was at it.. is a staggering 20 years. His lamentation is warranted, never getting past bronze when his dream is to become strong and powerful as the mithril-class adventurer that saved him that day, Wilfried. And to get vengeance on the wolf monster that changed the course of his life.

Villages probably do powerful adventurer! So true! *nods*

With that decision, he drinks the vial of blood. What occurs is a bit typical of him, not wanting to lose himself to becoming a monster, which has been a running theme for him. Never losing or giving in to what he wanted to hunt his entire life, rather being stronger than it. Of course, our leading lady wants her man to come back to her. And not having to put him down like he asked.

I’m coming back to the light novel Lorraine!!

So how this plays out. Cloppe is working on yet another sword, since he and his wife worked out he has become even more powerful, somehow. The orphans all want to be adventurers thanks to our main lead inspiring them, even Alize. It’s been like what ages since Rina made an appearance. She now has partied up with Ryze and Laura, with Sheila reminding them to turn back if something feels off. Now the big one. Lorraine is sitting beside a sleeping Rentt. She checks off some of the things that he could be. Wings, check, fangs, check, red eyes, check. It turns out he has turned into a vampire.

The touching part is Lorraine is just happy to see the face she has known to love all these years. I do like the throwback to how they first met. This time, I’m guessing they can go see Wilfried in another country. I’m assuming they will party up, since she is a silver ranked adventurer.

That red loving stare from Rentt to Lorraine

What are my final thoughts on episode 12 and would I recommend The Unwanted Undead Adventurer?

Not a lot to this episode, most of it is a back story on how our main lead became the way he is. Pretty unconventional approach, I think. It also reinforces Rentt’s personality throughout, not ever giving in to things despite his despair and frustrations. And I think what is important to him, I think he has come to realise, it’s okay to depend or lean on others like he did with Lorraine.

Pretty sad to see undead adventurer come to an end. I thoroughly enjoyed the series, it won’t be for everyone as there are quite a lot of inner monologues from Rentt and not eye catching action sequences or scenes. The pacing I think would be the biggest put off, it plodded along. So if anyone is wanting fast action, high octane battles and subdued dialogues, then undead adventurer won’t be for you. I enjoy this type of journey, it made the main lead relatable, as throughout I found him to be. Wasn’t rushing to the end game, you got to know the main characters and some of the side characters at least. There are some lingering questions, like the dragon, Laura Latours that do need answering. If looking for a slow-paced fantasy series, then I highly recommend it.

Love the call back on how they first metHe’s not!!!

This is what other blogger(s) are saying about this episode of the unwanted undead adventurer

Rentt also drinks the much-anticipated vampire blood. This had us on the edge, knowing there were a multitude of possible outcomes.Epi 12 The Geek Review

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 11 review: The penultimate

Boys, toys and rewards

Holy hell, I’d never think you’d have a spot of tea in the middle of a maze and treat it as if it is a tea party. Rentt comes across a young lady doing exactly that, having tea. From what she said, the Latour family are what I suspected from the last episode, this clandestine family holds more power and wealth in Maalt. For example, the teapot she is using, not only is it a magic item that can create any tea it was used to make, it goes for 300 platina. According to our main lead, you can live off that comfortably alone and still have spare change.

Blue Lock & Legend of Mana Epi 1

Bloody hell they do!!, some reward then!

Another hint was given to him about the sun. I’m suspecting there is something about it? Maybe. As he wanders aimlessly about, he rethinks about what the cryptic hint meant, when he suddenly notices that the sun vanishes very quickly. It is at this moment he realised what the whole cryptic sun hint is about. There are teleporters in the maze, I think one way he said. It has the maze goers go around in circles, so he has to redo the whole thing from the start – I’m guessing he used the throw a stone and see if it goes through trick. Eventually he makes it to the exit, and there waiting before him at the entrance to the mansion is the very same girl he met in the middle of the maze.

Laura Latour, the head of the Latour family. I do like how he has a sense of humour, as part of his reward, he asked for the maze jokingly. The family has a lot of magical items that are worth in the thousands from what I’m guessing. As they do have a very large extensive collection.

Look a flying airship!!

I have to say, Rentt was like a little school boy, he got a small tour of the place and what item he could choose as a reward. He tried out this small airship model that is powered by mana, and you could even place your thoughts in to see where from the airships view point – as he said would make a good scouting item, but is impractical as it doesn’t go very far and it burns through mana very quickly. Now, there is a bit of world building here. Apparently in the west continent, they have airships powered by steam, which is a bit weird to me.

We’ve been led to believe it’s a magic-driven world—but then steam tech pops up? Are we missing a bigger picture here.

I had no idea either!!!

So, the fact it isn’t, makes me very curious about the rest of the world they’re in. He accidently transfers some of his mana to a deactivated golem to re-activating it.

Flaming hell, here we go … should be simple enough right, RIGHT?!

He thinks back on how to destroy golems, Lorraine telling him that by changing a single character found on the golem forehead will instantly destroy/deactivate it.

What big spikey shoulders you have grandma!Put what safe?

Well, that doesn’t quite happen, just when he was about to show off some of his new combo skills. After surveying the damage to some of the items, I couldn’t help but chuckle that he thought he had to pay for it all, I mean the dude is a broke ass adventurer. Have him do that, he’d paying it all off with how long he can live for. He didn’t decide on what he wanted till he came across the monster parts section of the collection. Instantly he was drawn to a red vial, now this vial contains the very thing that could help him evolve into the next stage of evolution. That red vial contained vampire blood. There is a massive price attached to anyone who digests it, they are driven mad. Knowing this, he chose it. I do love how he got two rewards, instead of just one for his trouble. He got the airship and the vial.

I am curious as to why Laura needs the dragonblood flower so much. It is hinted that something is wrong with her. Whilst Lorraine doesn’t mind having an undead living with her, but she knows Rentt and he doesn’t want that. So, she cautions him about the vial of vampire blood

Well, that’s what he’ll do Lorraine, he’s the titular undead, duh! That isn’t juice or anything

What are my final thoughts for episode 11?

The penultimate episode, it is okay I thought, got some action and some world building too. So nicely paced. Like how some magical items are made from the labyrinth and have a lot of value, whilst some are just junk and not worth it. The real focus is on the vial that Rentt chose. I’m pretty sure, no, actually certain he will take it. The other curious thing is who exactly is Laura Latour and why does she need dragon blood. I do hope it gets answered, or at least hint at why. I’m quite sad that the next episode is the finale. After the finale, I’ll be continuing with the light novel series. I’ve made a small start on the first vol and there are a few differences noticed from the anime to the novel.

Absolutely!!! … for what now?I don’t know, you tell me Rentt

This is what other blogger(s) are saying about this episode of the unwanted undead adventurer

It builds a tremendous amount of curiosity with the gatekeeper’s advice and revelation of some tricky teleportation. However, it doesn’t quench the curiosity it has built up as it just skips to a sequence of Rentt walking around the mazeEpi 11 The Geek Review

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 10 review: A new connection

Love, maze and new connections

I have to say the continuation is pretty seamless here, right from where Rentt defeats the dragon and in the dragonblood flowers field. He is met by a strange fellow, an elf by the name of Isaac Hart. Who is carrying an item that makes him immune to the swamps poison and an item that wards off the dragons. Both are looking to harvest the flowers, when he is propositioned by Hart into taking a job. Pretty sus that he isn’t giving away details as to whom would be the employer of our main lead, should he take on the job asked. I’m suspecting this person would be brought up later on. Also, Sheila almost giving away that he killed a dragon all by himself. Thus, drawing needles attention to him.

<< Previous episode 09

This stare down reminds of those two spiderman meme

Apparently monsters need to be butchered in to get the stones. So they head over to the butchers. I did find it amusing how he had to wear a special mask that neutralises poison, when it isn’t needed for him. Dario the butcher inspected the Tarasque Dragon, and noted how the dragon isn’t damaged, near in perfect condition. Which made him come to the conclusion that Rentt is actually quite strong. I do like the self-reflection here, his inner monologue is very telling of the type of character he is. He thinks that without being an undead, he wouldn’t have made it this far, spending 10 years of trying and making very little progress. Yet he an undead is where he is. He still aims to become human. I really get what Rentt is saying here.

No one tells me anything either!

He had to become something else in order to achieve his goal yet not losing his true self in the process. Which happens a lot to people. Back at the orphanage, he hands out the dragon’s blood flower to a priest and an herbalist. The herbalist expresses sadness that he can’t heal everyone. When our main lead decided to give away the rest of the flowers to them. Which gained a young girl’s affection.

What if I don’t have magic Rentt??

Edel gets his old gang to protect the orphanage, which is nice of him and amusing. Alize thanks him for all he has done. And wants to become an adventurer just like him. He says that she should get early training in, and that he would help her out and a certain someone with “too much time on their hands” would as well. That someone is Lorraine, who doesn’t have an issue with helping her out. Reprimands him for using such careless words to a young girl. Now this scene is just pure hilarious to watch, and I got a laugh at how much he is squirming.

I’m sure you’re not a NEET Lorraine…

Lorraine’s jealously has kicked in to super high gear, knowing that our boi is getting a lot of female attention, yet not taking in to her feelings. She literally threatens him with a power move to see how much his body can take. He literally spews some stuff like it’s off a poem to her. She thinks he says this to all the women he meets, lmao. Jokes aside, there might be some truths to his own attraction to her within those words.

HOLY HELL!!!!Who would have thought Rentt is a charmer

I love how Edel is acting more like a master than his actual master. Anyway, Sheila has a discussion with our main lead. She informs that the person who has asked for him, works for a very powerful, yet secretive family called the Latours. Basically, this family has more power than any of the nobles, can even override them in certain matters. And he should be careful as this clandestine family can cause problems for him, should they take a dislike towards him. He assures her, that his presence won’t cause any problems for him. So, he heads off towards the mansion somewhere. What he notices is there is a maze and a guard stationed outside of it. After a while, he realises he is lost.

what ya mean?

What are my final thoughts for episode 10?

Not a bad episode. Back to the more consistent pacing I found throughout the series. I think the biggest highlight is actually seeing Lorraine getting frustrated of Rentt being so oblivious to her feelings towards him, even jealous that he goes out and meets women, who express their affection for him openly. I guess she is a bit exasperated by his dismissiveness as well, since he thinks they aren’t interested in him. The Latours are interesting, as they are the clandestine family that actually holds a lot of power in Maalt. The funny thing is Rentt is making way more connections than he ever did. Also, fairly saddened, this episode is just before the penultimate.

I’m lost too looking at this maze somehowYou think you’re falling for him too?

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 4 review: Thirst and evolution

Holy crud, he soloed that big ass skeleton boss. Must be some upper low-level boss, meaning that its low level where even newbies with the right gear and understanding can take it on. I’m a little bit mystified at Rentt, I thought divine magic would be more effective against the undead, so I’m not really sure why he wasted his attacks using spirit or magic. I get his sword isn’t quite up to scratch in handling low level divinity magic, even as a seasoned adventurer he would have known what works against monster types. The fight scenes are decent, showcasing his skills as an adventurer, I am curious as to who that person with the ponytail is though.

<< Previous episode 03

A big dungeon boss that is all bones, where’s Lassie?!

Can’t go wrong in getting free food, however showing your condition to a complete stranger, shows just how trusting he is. Which looks like it might work out for him, making new networking and all that. I’m curious as to where that magic circle leads to as well. Since he can see them, whilst others can’t. So restaurant is called the red dragon tavern and his name is Lorris who has a wife named Isabelle. I do love how Rentt thought the place might be some dingy looking bar in a dodgy alleyway. He also gives his name, whilst asking to keep it a secret. Lorris assures him, he’ll be called mister to keep it a secret, nice.

What a nice guy Rentt is, doing it free too!

It seems like Rentt was actually restraining himself due to seeing blood. Keeping that undead monster from devouring what he was hoping to be a villain, but ended up being a nice dude. I’m not liking how he is walking towards Lorraine’s place in this hungry state. The camera is a bit cheeky I thought, going to Lorraine’s neck, then to her rack. And do I also spot some affection towards Rentt there, once he embraced her. His blood lust took over, and holy hell, he went for her. Damn. Luckily she knows how to handle herself well, somehow I don’t think using sleep magic will work on him, which is weird it did. Err, she has it bad for him, that’s all I am writing for now. She knowing that ghouls prefer flesh and blood of humans, was prepared nice. Even nicer that he healed her using divinity, not really sure what she meant by “can’t be seen as damaged goods anymore”.

I’m getting terminator vibes from this…RUN!! Lorraine’s gotten mad

It seems he has evolved yet again – by feeding on Lorrain’s flesh and blood. The cursed mask might not be cursed after all, according to our leading lady, it responds to his desires. So, he’s becoming more humanoid than an undead, plus he beat that big ass skeleton back at the dungeon. I’m assuming to further evolve other certain requirements have to be met. Question is, just what are those requirements, will the series explain this slowly or tell it in a way that doesn’t make Rentt too overpowered for the sake of the plot.

Want herbs and fries with that too?The pose you have with no idea what’s been said, but go along with it anyway

Oh and he has evolved to a ghasts. Ghasts are below lesser vampires, so they could be seen as minions to lesser vampires?. I do like how Lorraine reprimanded him to listen to her hypothesis, and to not fall asleep during them. They discuss how our main boy is evolving, and funny enough, it confirms what I assumed, certain requirements have to be met in order for our main lead to eventually reach his goal, become more human. I do love how Lorraine just wants to experiment on Rentt, cutting this and that to find out. Whilst needing a new sword, Clope almost let it slip, he knows who he is. Whilst our main boy knows, Clope sussed it out. Nice little touch at the end with Lorris and Isabelle.

For god sake’s Rentt, don’t close your eyes and smile for the screencap

Pretty enjoyable episode, this one almost went dark when Rentt forced himself onto Lorraine, not his doing, but more of the ghouls nature in wanting flesh and blood. The explanation of him evolving further and there are requirements that need to be met in order to do so – I suspected this. Loved Lorraine on how over excited she became in wanting to use Rentt as a test subject, I think it’s a cover just to get all touchy with our main boy

I remember all of it Lorraine!!Careless whispers no?

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 3 review: Lorraine’s first adventure

So, Lorraine, who is worried about Rentt, contemplated sending out a search party for him. She recognised the knock on the door from him, which is nice, noticing that small level of detail, even down to the type of knock, shows just how well and close she is to him. The most amusing part is how she is looking at him more as a test-subject (due to her interest in existential evolution), instead of a friend in a very bad predicament. She agrees to take on jobs for him, which I’m suspecting would be the low-level ones.

<< Previous episode 02

Knock, knock, whose there.

As Rentt went into town to get his sword fixed, he got weird looks, yup dressing weird can do that to you, still looks cool though. The blacksmith called three-pronged sword store cleric, from my observations, at once recognised Rentt, despite his get-up. She noted two things; only one other person can use spirit, magic and divinity. Is close to Lorraine. I like how she didn’t probe any further, as it is very obvious, she realised who it is. Meanwhile, Lorraine is researching ghouls, concluding that our main character is a special case, noting that his personality isn’t lost upon death – which is the key aspect I’m guessing. Whilst thinking back of their time when she first met him. I’m guessing a great doctor is more of an herbalist, as that’s what she achieved at such a young age, plus silver rank automatically.

I haven’t either Lorraine!!!, they are just dead! This sounds like some pokemon levelling

I do think it is amusing he is called a pack carrier when first started out as an iron rank. Which kind of funny as well, since I consider myself as a pack carrier, I got this backpack with straps, whenever me and my friend go out to town, I always have it with me, in case we stop into some shops, just dump the items in my backpack and off we go on our merry way.

One shot everything is the MC’s job after allI just did!

Looking at the flashback, young Lorraine and Rentt make a cute couple. Funny thing about Rentt and myself, we’re both self-reliant. We both do what is necessary without asking. Like when she was getting herbs, he just did it without being told what to look for and how to properly place them. She quickly realises that he is way more capable than he lets on, when a goblin attacked them, and bloody hell never mind overpowered male characters, I’ve got a overpowered female character, who just one shotted a goblin – and being inexperienced to boot!

Totally ship them!!!

Clope, the blacksmith was curious as to who this “mysterious” person is as a test, he shook hands with our main boy. At once realizing (but without) making a fuss as to who it is. They are very much concerned about Rentt and his current predicament. Just like him, I also don’t want others to worry or cause any troubles to others. Being considerate, has its downside. It gives the impression that you don’t trust others. That’s not intended. I’m guessing I’ll be seeing more of Clope in the future.

Who are you people!!

Rentt can cook but I can’t. Sadage. He and Lorraine discuss his next step, which is to hit the next level of existential evolution, so back to the grind, yeah with anything, it’s always a grind. Yup, when I wanted the best slot item, in that MMORPG, I had to grind. Made being in a party whilst you grinded fun, when you’re doing it on your own, I guess blasting Spotify music to help with the doldrum grind is a thing. Anyway, he heads back to the labyrinth when he comes across a newbie. Turns out this newbie is a chef who is in debt. Didn’t want to help out, but it looked like he wanted to avoid blood, as the scene was putting some emphasis on the chef’s injury.

Takes him to where the dragon was first encountered, but no such luck when they spotted a small unexplored passage. The chef, being impatient, went ahead, but our main guy saw the teleportation circle in advance. Key theme running throughout the series, Rentt asking himself, is he a monster or a human. He decides to follow the chef, only to meet a boss.

Take the risk, better help insurance too (not)

Really can’t wait to see how the next episode is. I’m really enjoying the series, despite its slow pacing. With this episode it gives more backstory to Rentt and Lorraine and how they met.

Got what Rentt?

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 2 review: The knight’s daughter

Alright continuing on from the last episode, where our main lead Rentt has managed to reach existential evolution to a ghoul, spending most of his time in the labyrinth just grinding on his own, kind of like me, that mmorpg I play.

<< Previous episode 01

Too right, don’t let a lowly skeleton beat you Rina!

Just then he notices the young rookie that was looking for someone to party up with from the last episode – nice continuity there. She is also solo levelling (no pun!) as well. I chuckled a bit when our boy stalked her in what could only be described as a typical zombie / ghoul manner. When she gets ambushed by a skeleton. Struggles a bit, however Rentt stepped in as a distraction for the mob.

Rentt’s expertise and ability to distinguish between good and bad adventurers allowed the guild to retain him despite his lowly status, because of his ability to help newbie adventurers, helped maintain the guild’s good reputation. That is similar between me and Rentt, we both help out newbies, with me in that mmo. I used to send bags, give tips etc.

Rina Rupuaage is the rookie adventurer. The fact that he attempted to speak to her in the most distorted ghoulish language amused me. Seriously, Rina having doubts about a ghoul just coming up to her, helping her, even telling her that he is the “missing” adventurer and all he wants is some clothes and dumps a whole bag of gold to boot, even I would be suspicious.
Our boy has learned, his undead status has made him stronger than a human.

Not too surprising though Rentt, you still retained them, being an undead an all

He remarks how, being this intuitive is what makes a high ranked adventurer, sadly he only gained these abilities as an undead. Rina brought back the goods, but they’re still not quite on the same page with their communication.

Anyway, holy mouldy, do them threads look good on my boy. Looks like a proper adventurer that doesn’t stick out, his coat is long enough to hide most of his body, except his face. Kind of like me, he has a soft spot for baggy clothes that can cover most parts of the body, hahaha. An issue does arise with his face, as it isn’t covered, so he gets a cheap mask. Not just any ordinary mask, no, no, it’s a special cursed mask variety.

Look at the nap sack of goodsDon’t be!!!

This mask becomes iconic for him as he wears it in the light novel, there are some differences in their design. Rina is immediately saddened that she bought something so cheap, yet simply overlooked as the curse activates when it is worn, not just lugged around. Rentt being the nice guy, makes the most of it, at least it can be affected by divine magic. She then comes to the realisation, that he isn’t a bad gu..ghoul after all, even when I’m being a bit of a ghoul I ease on it, and just grunt .. wait .. he kind of does that in this form, huh.

Should have taken me around too!! need some good threads! The iconic getup

Thanks to the clothes, he’s able to leave the labyrinth. He also notes to Rina that being scared is actually a good thing as it keeps you alive. Obviously, noting on his own predicament, that adventurers have only one life. Is that a look of affection I see from her. Well, it looks like our undead hero still has that charm about him that draws decent people to him. Even though I contest this, my male childhood friend says the same thing about me. I have this charm that draws people in. Not quite getting the same level of affection from the ladies though. Anyway, Rentt thanks Rina for helping him out this time. Since helping an undead is an offence, she could lose her adventurer licence.

After getting in, he gives her the slip, whilst noting she looks after her cheap gear, talented, nevertheless. Knowing the feeling, he remarks talented adventurers like her left him, distantly similar to my own experience during my long tenure on my mmorpg. People left me behind basically. They made new friends, progressed on their goals in-game w/ friends etc. Partied up, basically.

ID’s please Rina, you look young

So, the lady with the nice rack is called Lorraine. He knows she has a bit of a track record of being “weird” which doesn’t bother her. I do love the fact she didn’t panic when confronted with Rentt’s withered undead hand.

You awake?What a sleepy princess

Honestly, I really enjoyed this episode. Sure, nothing much happened, besides confirming our boy will be overpowered in the future, the pacing felt right, it wasn’t rushed or anything. It was primarily designed to get Rentt out of the labyrinth and into what would be his iconic getup (damn he looks cool) throughout the light novel and series, also to introduce a possible love interest for him. Bets on Lorraine being the main squeeze

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 1 review: Being reborn as an undead

Being an undead is a grand old adventure!

What an introduction to the start of the series! Giving a brief overview of how Rentt came to be in his dire situation. Of course, the build up to that fateful encounter will be retold. I will say this, the opening Immortal by Juvenile is a right banger. Reading the English lyrics to it, I think any adult will understand and even sympathise with the meaning behind them. I certainly do “Even if they don’t match your ideal, chase your ambitions in your own way” sure the auto-tune makes it hard to understand what is said. I’m liking the art so far as well.

<< Previous episode 00

Rentt our main character and lowly bronze adventurer exploring

Rentt is a bronze class adventurer, I do like how he is giving some tidbits on the world and what he does. Even hinting at his scholar friend. He’s been a lowly bronze class adventurer for 10 years. And does things solo, thinking that he isn’t good enough to be in parties. I absolutely relate to Rentt. Spending years grinding away at something to not really make progress, compounded with the fact, having low esteem issues in thinking you’re not good enough to be in parties or work in groups, simply because the thinking is; it will slow down or hold back the group, or be a burden.
He does what I always do. Do things on your own. I do that a lot on the mmo I play. And yeah, people who ended up partying up with others, who started later than me, seeing people progressing a lot more and faster than me. I can understand the hidden frustration Rentt has.

Also, kind of like me, prudent with his earnings and has emergency backup if that fails – thought I’d throw that in there, to show just how independent he is. As Rentt explores the dungeon Labyrinth of the Moon’s Reflection, apparently there is a new one called that as well, just has “new” inserted before the moon. Some naming convention though. Anyway, going around marking his progress on the map, when he notices an unexplored path, that has emerged. Thinking he could score some sweet gold. He ventures forth only to come face to face with a dragon. I like the dragon design, it has this divine look to it. Also, I’ve read a small bit of the prologue to the light novel, stating that he couldn’t move, due to the sheer terror of facing the dragon.

Know the feeling of being broke ass Rentt

So, all that is the recap of how Rentt came to be. I do like how he has this existential crisis when discovers that he came back as an undead skeleton. Getting purged and all that.

As Rentt stumbles around in his new skeleton form in the dungeon, he realises just how weak these undead creatures are. Being unable to even swing his sword at first. The comical bit that had me chuckle is when a random skeleton falls over just before getting to him. However, despite being an undead, he has retained some of the human skills, like spirit energy, mana, divine blessing. Using that he overpowered his new foe, and regained spirit energy. It is here, that his lovely scholar friend with a nice set of racks, explains that monsters have a trait that puts them above humans, existential evolution. By remembering this, he sets about gaining levels aka spirits to evolve into a ghoul.

Wise words indeed, Ms scholarWould have been funnier if they pointed at each other

Meanwhile his scholar friend is curious, slightly concerned about his absence. Rentt and I are somewhat adaptable, he quickly adapted to his situation by not really questioning it or not fretting as much on the situation and making the best out of the situation, aka trying to make gold even though he can’t really sell them, yet. This will be solved as he becomes a ghoul no doubt.

Foretelling words, however, those racks

Back at the guild hall, a newbie is looking for a party to help her out. Sheila, the guild worker, recommended Rentt, however, concerns are starting to show, as he is that well known for helping out newbies. Whilst our main lead, has revealed that if you throw in his training, he’s been an adventurer for 20 years. His self-reflection is admirable, he knows he isn’t the best adventurer, and even thinks he should have quit, but he just couldn’t. Both of us, even when things look bleak, find it within ourselves to not give up. Or find a way to make things work. And that’s what Rentt did, not give up on his dream to be a mithril class adventurer, skeletal and all!

Bloody newbies taking up all the vets time

With more levelling up he finally hit the jackpot! became a ghoul. Congrats my boy. I just found it funny how he tried to talk like a human despite being a newly evolved ghoul. Also can’t beat the fact the dude still wanted to make gold, even as a skeleton – shows how flat ass broke he is.

I’d say so too Rentt, looking all undead and rottingsparkly!!

What are my final thoughts on episode 1?

Really enjoyed the first episode. The pacing was good, it didn’t rush as it focused on Rentt and his newly found situation and coming to terms with it. Fairly quickly I might add.

You’re nothing but ski…err bones and cloth though
