Clevatess Episode 02 review: Bandits suck
Clevatess wasnât supposed to hit this hard. Now Iâm pacing between episodes like it owes me answers
To recap, Klen transformed into a human, both he and Alicia got captured by bandits in the previous episode. He points out that under this transformation, his skin is thin and frail. I like how he was just sat there nonchalantly in the wagon. I love how this particular scene echoes back to how Alicia was first introduced as a hero, with a twist of course from the first episode.
Did you guys see the overhead view of the banditâs camp? showed a large hole, will that hole have something to do in this episode? I think it will. Bandits are pretty much your typical asses found in most fantasy, dark fantasy series. I hope they get their comeuppances, would love to see Klen tear a hole, big enough like that hole in the camp and teach them a lesson. Also, they might have found their wet nurse.
Alicia is brought to their âbossâ Vrok. Pretty smart character, even if he is a total ass, he clocked that she was one of the 13 heroes. Curious, how did word get out, when she concealed her gender from the main fodder themselves? bit of a mystery there. It confirms what I suspected with Hiderat now in ruins, the price for their magical weapons is sought after. Vrok, is selling counterfeits, the swine.

Uh-oh, donât like what the scene implied, where she was taken away from Vrok by his hench men, to have âa bit of funâ. Dark fantasy isnât for everyone. And Clevatess isnât holding back from the looks of it. Anyone looking for something nice, warm, fuzzy with pixie dust, better tune off, maybe watch Mashimaâs Fairy Tail. Klen has been made to work what looks like a pub, ironic that one who has servants, is being made to serve others.
I do feel for an abused slave woman called Nell; sheâs the wet nurse that is breast feeding Luna. She works at the pub. The abuse is held back and toned down; it could have been worse. However, that ass spanking is one thing, the black eye is a dead giveaway.
Actually, I take that back a bit. Nell recounts her back story, and not gonna lie, it was a bit hard to take in. She was abused by the bandits since she was 12. Her plight made me really sorry for her. In order to survive, she had to essentially become a prostitute, this was done by Carme who took her in. Iâm guessing she saw just how bad it would have gotten, so essentially saved her. Nell having given still births to not one, not two, but three kids of her own, really shows how Clevatess can be brutal. Klen who listened intently, didnât interrupt, let Nell tell her story, then without question offered her a new path. For a dark beast, heâs showing far more human traits than what actual humans are in this series.
Wow the final few minutes were just so, damn, Aliciaâs is taken to this rope bridge, where I suspected the bandits wanting to have fun with her is partially correct. Anway, some real nice world info dump was given. Remember the giant hole? well this place is an abandoned mineshaft for arcanacite called Elbe, the legendary hero Khordhwar was last seen here. 300 years ago, it got flooded, and with that flood brought dark beasts called Arvensis of the water. He wasnât a match for them, however his sword Stream splitter is at the bottom.
Could Alicia be Saber in disguise, I mean she is blonde and cute too. What happened at the rope, isnât for the faint of hearts, and holy hell left me awe struck.
Next Weekâs Doom Forecast đ©ïž
From what happened at the rope bridge, Alicia is an undead, so she will come back and kick their assess ten-fold. I do think Klen will start to act, in order to procure Nellâs service. Meaning heâs going to wipe them out.

Clevatess Episode 01 review: the dark lord beast
Welp, the premiere for Clevatess dropped, so Iâm late, however, will be taking my time in doing these episode reviews. Also heads up: this review formatâs an outlier, since epi 1 runs a hefty 45 mins long.
First impression: 90âs fantasy vibe & brutal world building
Straight off the bat, the art reminds me of those really early 90âs fantasy. So that is quite nice considering Clevatees is dark fantasy, and it doesnât hold back either. The story starts off with some expo dump, introducing the main female lead Alicia as a child. Her dream is to be one of the chosen heroes, who will lead humanity in venturing further out from their lands and show the world, just how bigâŠand bad, like really bad the world really is. Considering the continent of Edthea is guarded by the 4 lord beasts. I donât know, this could tie into the mythos of Japan having 4 divine beasts, as each represent North, South, East and West. Maybe? the world is vastly unexplored so why do the 4 beasts guard the 4 points of the compass
(I donât know about you; wouldnât it be funny if Edthea is in a vast lake that pretends to be an ocean. Just throwing it out there). Anyway, Alicia becomes a chosen hero. So thatâs very unsurprising. I got to meet some chuâcharacters that didnât last as long as their name cards. Their weapons were legendary. Their wielders? fodder. Their name cards outlived their legacy
YeahâŠhe didnât last longWhyâs that you ask? jokes on you, I donât have 100g to give â Iâm flat broke sue me okay! Clevatess, one of the 4 dark lord beasts has arrived. And holy hell ⊠did you see the first attack? it was that fast, even the name cards were on longer. You all got them kill counts right? because Iâm still stuck on one. Damn⊠you guys see that insane spinning sword evades by Alicia?! I love it!!
Da beast has arrived! Next time on epi 02 of clevatess >>A thousand years, that is some really nice expo dump given to me by Clevatess. He called them humanoids, weird thing to note on them. Iâd bookmark that as well too, could hold some plot point in the future. Cleavatess, just decimates the heroes as if they are some lvl 1 noobs on a dungeon quest, who are out of their league.
Capital Carnage: Hiden Kingdom falls & furnace lore
Hiden kingdom, capital city Hiderat â I mean that is a very, erâŠcuriously and very interesting name for a capital city. Sounds like itâs ripped from final fantasy XI! what you guys think? Not shockingly at all, Clevatess launches an attack on the named capital. His inner monologues are intriguing- he shows curiosity, whilst mowing down Hidenâs populace like heâs having stroll in the park.
Self-explanatory, looks like a cool fantasy city waiting to be doomedGod damn, that is just brutal Clevatess, pure execution- off with the kingâs head! Jokes aside, Hilden is one of those places that would be targeted because they pose a threat, very typical fantasy-esq .. or they did something stupid, either way it lands in most fantasy settings.
I would have stayed quiet, now the city is going to get rekted because of themSomething else also caught my attention â the Hiderat furnace plays an important part in their smithery. Now that the king is dead, how they going to continue, they like going to cut off the kingâs hand, shove it on the scanner or something?
Beyond the fangs: Mercy, curiosity, and monster philosophy
There is more to Clevatess than just some vengeful Thanatos, behind that animalistic instinct, he is at cross-roads with them. One hand he wants to wipe them out, on the other, a level of curiosity lies there. Showing a conflicted relationship, he harbours with them. He could have rejected a dying Hildreans wishes, but he didnât. Instead taking on an infant. Just to see. Showing a small level of compassion to cement that complexity.
Ainât Luna cute?Hildeans are the âelves-dwarvesâ of this fantasy setting, and they are more open to other races, unlike the usual racial tropes. I love the world building expo, giving so much insight into the world and other races.
The king of Hildean not wanting to mess with ClevatessUndead motherhood: Alicia, Luna and the beastâs mercy
Going back to how this all started, Alicia is in essence a tragic heroine. She died dreaming of something hopeful, only to have that dream shattered like an elegant cathedral windowpane. Clevatess, the beast who slaughtered her and her comrades, brings her back from the dead using his dark ichor. She returns as an undead servant, bound to help raise the infant, Luna. He demands that she feeds the baby, this even further cementing his complex relationship with humans.
Alicia, visibly embarrassed, admits she never had the chance to nurture, so suggests a wet nurse. I do like this scene, the morning light shining off arcanacite stones, it gives this very bittersweet glow â she is undead yet there is hope that shines. Oh, and they go by the name Klen and Luna. I had to laugh, Klen is so particular, that he overtly criticises Alicia on how to clean Luna. The sheer irony of this scene is like basking in holy water.
Cool, youâll find a nanny or a babysitter!! thatâs⊠a wet nurse is right? No, it got baby doo klen, what you never looked after a baby before, pfftI wonder what the legend is actually referring to, is there more to the legend that isnât clear, does this involve a prophecy around Luna, like she is the chosen one who will lead humanity to the light side? also, the naming day of the son. Hang on, it canât meanâŠanyway the kingdom has fallen. And well like any, in fantasy setting, you guessed it ⊠other kingdoms are here to pick the bones off like Clevatess cleans his fangs with.
As usual, some other kingdom is here for the pickingNext stop: Bandits, bones and post-kingdom blues
Err⊠looks like this review has hit its word count of 1k ⊠my bad, to quickly end, well not as epic as the OP ruler (which just rocks!). Iâll see you on the not-so-1k review! ⊠donât leave me behind Klen!!

The catcher in the ballpark Episode 12 review and final thoughts
Thoughts on Episode 12 of Catch me in the ballpark
Vignette 1: Transformative Game
Itâs the aftermath of the playoff game. Even though Motorsuns didnât get to make the playoffs, itâs their last game of the season. Aona has passed her teacherâs exam, whilst Ruriko is still bawling like a baby.
Aww, cutie Aona leaving, that sucks!Aww, pretty sad to see Aona go, sheâs such a cutie. I just laughed at how my fave girl Ruriko is just bawling each time. At the same time, though, itâs understandable for her to be emotionally attached to the vendor girls, which is surprising given that she had been working there for 4 months. Which is the more immature one? Sara or Ruriko. It pretty much ended on a sweet note, with the girls giving Aona her flowers. They did leave the relationship ambiguous with Murata and Ruriko, I felt. There is a hint of a new girl with pink hair, who has left me curious.

Vignette 2: Last Message
Coach decides that this will be his final season. Whilst this comes at a shock to most of the backroom staff and press. He goes through with it. Meanwhile the rest of the players are having an off-season day. Helping out with the club and just goofing around in general.
I wonder who is leaving, donât leave the suspense out!!!Just asked Copilot to do the maths on this. 288 wins and 418 losses give the coach a whooping 40%-win ratio. If your team had a 40%-win rate over five years, would you still be rooting for them⊠or applying for the manager job yourself? That tallies up to what Motorsuns have been throughout the entire series, perpetual underdogs under his 5-year reign. Itâs inevitable, really, that not all managers/coaches last. Otherwise, theyâll have the Fergie / Wenger effect. A club is so used to having just one manager leading them for a long duration, in Manchester United case, failing to adapt no matter how much money you throw at the team. It was a really sweet and fitting end for his reign.
Does that mean youâll be stepping up somewhere else then? you know 40% an allVignette 3: Itâs Opening Day, Okay?!
Itâs the start of a new season. And with it come some changes. A new manager has made some changes to the team. A pink-haired vendor girl is being hired. Motorsuns have been playing away from home; however, this will be their first home game of the season.
Kampai!A very fitting ending, how it started, ends on how it all began. Iâm very interested in the new hire. Intriguing, right? That pink hairâs giving main-character energy⊠but letâs be realâRuriko and Kohinata still own my vendor girl loyalty. Not much really happened in this final vignette. I am a little confused about Japanâs baseball, though. In opening games, any top teams play at home, whilst all the other teams play away. I did chuckle at how Ruriko got annoyed at being at the start. She did interrogate Murata (with some jealous mind you), however, his beer is his first one he got this season. Which is sweet.
See you Ruriko, marry me before the manga ends!Final thoughts and recommendation:
I doubt there will be a 2nd season, if so, it will be very surprising to me. The biggest criticism that can be thrown at the catcher in the ballpark is that it constantly teases with Murata and Ruriko, we got a small hint in episode 9 that it might develop. Sadly, it reverted back. Which is fine for me anyway, since Ruriko and Kohinata are my two vendor girls. Pretty sad we wonât get to find out who the new girl is.
The catcher in the ballpark isnât a sports show, per se. It uses it as a backdrop for what it is really the star, the characters, sure, there are some baseballs involved, just not as extensive as a specialised sports series is. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the catcher in the ballpark; it pleasantly surprised me. Itâs not meant for a big binge, just watched in small pockets. I recommend it, as it doesnât require thinking too hard.
I give this 8/10.

Thoughts on Episode 11 of Catch me in the ballpark
Vignette 1: The Clincher Part 1
Motorsuns and the entire fan base are on edge. This match will determine who will advance to the playoffs, as they are tied on points with their long-time rival Styxs. Just who will go through with this all-important match
Megumi looking nervous thereIâm smiling on this, damn even Iâm on edge seeing who will be going through, which player will make the play that clinches (pun intended) for the club. I love how all the characters from the previous episodes have come together. This is their moment!!! I do feel sorry for Megumi; she didnât get picked to play the trumpet in band class. That is a bummer.

Reign of the seven spell blades Episode 1: HP the anime
Vignette 2: The clincher part 2
Motorsuns have a narrow lead over the Styx. However, Mitsui begins to self-doubt himself as his pitches are not making the impact that he hoped it would. However, that isnât the only problem Shishio has a problem and he isnât telling the team.
Shout for me as well Ruriko and Kohinata!!Damn it!Hell yeah, the match is intense! I feel sorry for Mitsui; the pressure is immense for him. I laughed at how much drinks Kisa bought, Ruriko had to remind her to slow down since she was on her fourth! This looks bad, Shishio might have gotten a foot injury, it certainly has impeded his ability to play. Just when he looked, he might catch, he narrowly missed it. I love Ruriko, she is a simple vendor girl, yet she is certainly the heart of the team. She is the sole person to encourage Mitsui which galvanised the fans in to cheering him on too, I do love how Kohinata had to try and calm her down. Two of my faves vendor girls. Iâm hoping the team does it, with injury and from whatâs happening, I donât think it can happen though
Vignette 3: The clincher part 3
With a do or die moment coach subs out Mitsui and Shishio. With the latter injury being noticed. Motorsuns had players on bases, just needed to convert, sadly they couldnât. It went down to the wire, Kojiro needed a run. Alas, their luck just wasnât on their side. With a catch, Styx go through.
This isnât going their way ⊠dang itItâs all on you now kojiro!Dang, Iâm gutted ⊠even Ruriko was crestfallen when it looked hopeless. The pressure to the team, dang first time and all. Understandable, some teams just choke at that moment. I remember when Leeds United choked a few seasons ago. They were at the top of the English Championship at Christmas, then injuries came, followed by dropping in to the playoffs, only to lose that as well. Man, a valiant effort from them. I donât read the manga, hope they reach it when the manga ends, just for a good feel
Overall Conclusion:
Wow, what an episode. Sure, it was one whole arc, where Motorsuns were making a massive bid to win the playoffs. Heart break for them, and I felt for them. The emotions and the ride throughout the season, told me that Motorsuns are a team worth cheering for, even if they are fictional. I wrote it already, Ruriko is the heart of the club, she spurned Mitsui on, even when the fans initially turned on him. They then showed with whole heart that the team is worth supporting. Iâm going to miss this series when the final episode review comes.

The catcher in the ballpark Episode 10 review
Thoughts on Episode 10 of Catch me in the ballpark
Vignette 1: Us back then
Natsume Uda a failing actress and former idol, is having a hard time landing gigs, she makes her way to the stadium where she is recognised by Kohinata. Natsume worked as a vendor girl at the same time as Kohinata. Both look back at the club and their time together. Natsume compares her ailing career to that of the club.
Look at them two beauties!Itâs really great they added a backstory to the episode where they showed Kohinata and a former worker together in a pic. Well, this is that worker. I do feel bad for Natsume, all her efforts arenât being rewarded, no matter how hard she tries. It is pretty funny how she compares herself to Motorsuns â both try but not achieving what they want. Itâs funny, because they are now in a position to be in the playoffs. So, I suspect, Natsume could be getting a major gig as well. Kohinata is close 2nd after Ruriko.
<< Catch me at the ballpark ep 09: The dog, the drama, the defining momentVignette 2: Whack that bottom!
Dennis is wondering why his fellow teammate Bryan is getting the teamâs ass pat. Bryan hinted that, the issue is Dennis not making eye contact with his teammates. With him up to bat, he gets a homerun, with a very nice outfield shot.
I wish I could say the same BryanWell, you are, duh!I am laughing at this vignette. The english is pretty much your typical Engrish, where the VAâs do their best in speaking English. However, that isnât the only thing that got me laughing, and it is a nice nod back to episode 9 where Ruriko mentions Murata by name. She finds it awkward to look him in the eye, Dennis who witnessed Murata being friendly with her, is outright staring daggers into his soul. In a bid to show his worth, he hits a homerun. The hilariousness is that his homerun smacked Ruriko on the butt, you lucky damn ball! and finally, he gets to meet his baseball goddess who gives him a receipt.
Vignette 3: The double T-duo
Koijo is being congratulated for his first born. Everyone except his best friend Tsubaki is informed. So, he decides to use a spare empty room to give his best friend that he is expecting. They both remanence on how they couldnât join up together. With Tsubaki leaving for the states. However, the phone call led to a startling revelation.
I got work too, to bad itâs on a weekend doing this!Who this mysterious guy? This vignette is quite touching. The two friends that wanted to play together in the same team, their fates and destiny werenât aligned. With Tsubaki having to leave Japan. Throughout the series, they have been mentioned. As the call went on, it is slowly hinting at something. I didnât expect the revelation
SpoilersTsubaki is Sun-shiro, Motosunâs mascot
I really enjoyed watching the final scene with Kojiro.
Overall Conclusion:
I got what Natsume is going through, always trying and never really getting that break, whilst others who also try, eventually get that break much earlier than you. And that is demoralising. Whilst keep trying is a thing, there is also diminishing effort. Meaning that, youâre wasting energy in pursuing something that might not happen occur. The second vignette got a laugh out of me, that baseball is lucky to hit Ruriko in the ass. The final one is very touching.
