I dream of a bootable #docker cluster that I can use on my local PC's so I can cluster them all together and make a HPC cluster. I could put all the storage in the cloud and make the nodes auto-configuring. Each one would have a web console to pull a small web console that can be used to manage docker and adopt other nodes. Maybe even treat docker guests as APPS and deliver them via a store experience. Am I reinventing #rancheros

I just discovered #BurmillaOS , the successor of #RancherOS ) , a minimal #Linux based on #Docker : https://burmillaos.org . This can be THE host operating system on virtual machines running containers. I hope this very cool project achieves the next 2.0 major release.

From 2021 suggestions of best OS for running #docker only - #CoreOS (discontinued), #RancherOS (discontinued), Ubuntu Core (can't use groupadd, unfriendly to VM-no ISO), Redhat Project Atomic (discontinued in favor of CoreOS which is also discontinued), Mesosphere DCOS (is there a free option?) and #Alpine Linux. I guess that leaves me with either Alpine or #Ubuntu Server.

Hi, was genau wird gesucht? Host OS oder Docker UI? Ich nutze gerne #docker #swarm mit #compose Files ohne UI. Hier gibt es aber auch #portainer als Web UI.
Host seitig braucht es nur eine Distribution mit einer ausreichend aktuellen Docker Repo. Fedora geht eher in die Richtung Podman. #RancherOS hat seine Zeit hinter sich und #k3os setzt auf #kubernetes bzw. #k3s.

Anyone here have experience with #RancherOS running on #FreeBSD with something like #iohyve?

I want a simple, clean solution for running #Docker containers on #FreeNAS.

(ps, I understand that jails are far superior, but sometimes I just need containers)

Just clicked 5 cloud boxes at #hetzner and installed #rancheros on all of them. Then used #rke to setup a #kubernetes cluster and got my test setup working in ~15 minutes 😍 Just wanted to say thanks to #rancherlabs and #hetzner for this awesome user experience! Great work!
