Rainbow’s Week, Sept 7 2025

A mutual on social media posts weekly blog posts about his life, and I thought that was a cool idea. So I’m trying it out.

My name is Azure, and I’m a member of a plural system, which means multiple people in one bodymind. We share the name Rainbow and they/them pronouns. We are multiply disabled (autism, PTSD, ME/CFS, and others) and require assistive devices and caregivers.

This week was rough. Our mental health issues got triggered 2 times very badly, in addition to our baseline of small triggers from everyday life. Our sleep schedule is just getting back to normal from the second trigger, which kept us up 8 or so hours after our usual bedtime.

We’ve also been struggling with getting enough food and water because of executive dysfunction. We physically have food and water, but our executive dysfunction makes it so there’s a mental barrier to actually consuming it. It’s not so severe that it’s an immediate problem, but it really needs to resolve in the next couple months. We have some ideas.

On a more positive note, we’ve been trying a new setup for tasks to help recover from autistic burnout. We’ve been trying to dedicate 1 hour per day (excluding bad days), while we have a caregiver over to help, to do tasks. Outside of that hour, we have to postpone all but the most urgent tasks until the next daily tasking hour. This has been semi-successful! We’re still working on it.

A less conscious decision to help with autistic burnout has been that I seem to be frontstuck. That means I’m in charge of the body and I can’t hand it off to one of my headmates (the other people who share my bodymind) even if I try. Usually, this is a problem, because most of us aren’t designed to handle that well. But my role in the system seems to be taking over when we’re in autistic burnout, so it should be fine! Last time it lasted a month.

What else… we went to a food bank? Oh, also, we got some ideas for how to wash our hair in a way that is more accessible to us. We have sensory processing disorder from autism, and certain textures are so bad for us that we’d rather endure physical pain. We’re going to try baking soda and apple cider vinegar (not together – we’re going to do it with a rinse in between) and hopefully that’ll work better. We already tried the baking soda, since we already had it in our pantry, and I think it worked great!

I’ve also been earning little bits of money by doing paid surveys and stuff. I wrote a blog post about the sites we’ve been using.

Finally, I made a website! I’m posting this on both WordPress and our new website. I’m super excited. I followed a tutorial. It’s not fancy by any means, but I’m very proud of it. It’s functional and I even changed the colors!

Thank you for reading!

On executive dysfunction

Executive dysfunction, for us, is when the mini-mini-task “put my computer aside” is a monumental, nearly impossible feat of mental strength. It can take hours of screaming internally a…
