Science is not like mathematics.

In Mathematics it is entirely worthwhile to ask "What if [something normal] was not the case? How would that look?" It's fine. It's fun. It might even turn out to be useful.

In science, we are not working from some axiomatic system that we can redefine at will.

In science we are working with the real world, and the things that might be true are strictly curtailed, not by rule but by actuality.

The reminder: We are trying to find those things that might be true.

It does not behoove us to look for them in random places.

This is why Penrose's quantum consciousness is junk. It is a leap into a world where the brain is mostly just inert fat, with some quantum magic sprinkled on top.

If one's model to make sense of brain function immediately ignores all the brain's detectable funtionings, it's not science, just faith.
