If you don't trust Boeing anymore, does that mean you have to _strum_ your cello or violin?

On a different platform, someone asked whether anyone used jokes for language learning.

The only reason I don't have a wall of text to write on this subject is that the answer is simple: _yes_. Some do. Some _very_ do.

You don't even need to speak a language particularly well to start making bad puns in it. Just take words and combine them in interesting ways, and the rest will fall into place. You can use multiple languages at once if your social group is sufficiently multilingual. Remember that the goal is not to memorize a list of jokes to tell — it is to develop the ability to simply _do it_, when the need arises or on command.

Wordplay is a great way to deepen your familiarity with a language. You will also make people laugh, and probably make friends. People will remember you as the person who does a lot of wordplay. Several ingroup terms for "pun" will be coined based on memorable examples, and your name will be adapted into both a class of joke and a game that your friends play. You will acquire a reputation and a personal mythology will arise around you. More of these things have actually happened than you would believe.

And none of this can ever be a bad thing. So yes. Do it.
