@JenThorne I just happen to both be the tiger and take down the tiger. I've decided it's a zen thing that I'm okay with -- not like it's changing this late in the game (or that I would in the face of the face full this life insisted on for me).

no paper tiger
no convenient tail by hand
just one conclusion

you sought either one of these
you got caught doing it too

I learned the other day that the word miscreant originally meant someone who held wrong beliefs, a heretic or an infidel.

This fits with its etymology. It comes to us (via the Old French word mescreant) from Latin roots: mes- (itself related to minus = less) and crēdere = to believe.

That old definition has a religious fervour, in which your god’s representatives on earth are absolutely sure that theirs is the One True Way and everyone else is wrong and therefore must be cast out or killed.

There’s less call for that sort of thing these days. I guess religions have moved on, and no longer need to show such justifications for their actions.

Nowadays miscreant means (as my Chambers has it) a vile wretch, a detestable scoundrel. No religion necessary. Which is more useful as an insult, anyway.

A #rebus is a #wordplay #puzzle combining images and letters to represent a word or phrase.

Words are represented by combinations of pictures and letters; for instance, "apex" might be represented by a picture of an ape followed by a letter X.

Moving left to right "say" the images in English and mix in the letters to complete the answer.
