@48kRAM Can I choose my own? Tandy TRS-80 Model 102 which I used to own (but gave away to a friend that used to have one when he was young).

🥳 Behold the Typeframe PX-88, where a Raspberry Pi meets a mechanical keyboard in a love story for the ages. Spoiler: it's a "portable computing system" that thinks it's a #cyberdeck but is just a glorified clicky keyboard with delusions of grandeur. 🚀 Perfect for those who think a Pi in a box will launch them into the hacker elite. 😂

MakeUseOf: This free and open-source tool made my USB drives way more useful. “I went tool hunting and found Ventoy. This open-source app installs once, and then you can add as many disk images (ISO/WIM/IMG/VHD(x)/EFI files) as you want to the drive without needing to reformat. You can also include all your portable diagnostic apps and continue to use the USB as a storage device.”

Dinky Computers

Were a list compiled of my manifold sins and wickedness, near the top of that very long list would be my affection for gadgets that I imagined I needed and therefore purchased. Usually it turned out I didn’t actually need them at all. Sometimes they did end up being useful, though none of them will be mentioned here.

The Best Size Of A Laptop

17 years ago, Steve Jobs stood on stage with a manila envelope in his hand and pulled out a laptop. At that time, mini-laptops called netbook were very popular, and the first Macbook Air had far superior features in every way. I had a Lenovo IdeaPad S10e. If I remember correctly, the screen resolution was 1378x768, but it was good enough for me. It fit in my small bag, it was light, and I could open it up and even use it on the food tray on my long bus rides.

@geraldew #Flashdrives having often no #WearLeveling is why they are cheap.

  • As for #PortableComputing I recommend from experience to use a M.2 or 2,5" SSD in an external case (the M.2 will likely just be like a chonky flashdrive) instead, as they have better and more consistent performace and can handle a lot and randomized I/O way better.

In fact, I se that all the time...

I think I may just run the #SteamDeck as my primary "personal" machine when I travel. With a folding Bluetooth keyboard/trackpad and my kickstand, it's actually pretty usable. And I can still game on it.

For "serious" stuff I have an office-issued laptop that I'd have to carry anyway. #PortableComputing #Laptop #Handheld

The heck with cellphones, I want palmtop computers back. With belt holsters.

(Found these on eBay, so I can't speak to how they actually are to use. But if you were so inclined, $36 gets you a set of 4: https://www.ebay.com/itm/133891681542)
