We just missed out on Marillion, Depeche Mode, Porcupine Tree and All About Eve

I decided that the most comfortable and future-proof way for me to listen to music is to buy albums and listen to them like I did before music streaming services existed.

The motivation came from a conversation I had with @eclecticpassions, Morgan and @autumnstuff during #IWC2026!

I found out that Plex has a music player and it’s supposed to be good. The thing is: I need a plex server where my music lives. There’s an old Lenovo ideapad that doesn’t perform at all under Win10 anymore so I installed Linux Mint yesterday and set up a Plex server today! It’s working! I can stream my music on my laptop and phone from the old laptop I wanted to throw away.

Now I’m trying to set up that the music can be stored on a network drive (HDD connected to the router) so I can transfer new music comfortably on my main laptop. Let’s hope this works! I have very limited experience with Linux but Mint makes it comfortable enough. Working with the terminal is scary though but with the help of tutorials I worked my way through this.

This old thing is still really slow though.
