Made ink from potato galls. It's a lovely warm yellowish brown colour :)
Here's how: cut them up, put them just under water, heat them au bain marie for half an hour. Sieve them out, heat until almost nothing is left. Mix with gum arabic. If you don't have that you can do without. Either use up quickly or add something to keep mould away, like cloves or winter green.
The galls can be found onder oak trees (at least here in Europe)
