I worked briefly for Dr. Cary Fowler, co-author of “Food First: beyond the myth of scarcity” and first author of “Shattering: food, politics and the loss of genetic diversity.” Cary kept his research notes on index cards and structured his books by organizing the index cards. The most important thing he taught me was never to write a direct quote on a card. Always write the idea in your own words. Then, when you transcribe your notes into a manuscript, you will not inadvertently #plagiarize.
