@IPEdmonton Another great reason for a pellet stove!

#PelletStove

The #Wiseway is the best looking gravity fed #PelletStove, and it would be great for providing constant heat in a power outage, but it doesn't have a way to heat food or water which seems like the next most important thing we'd want in a winter emergency. I'm also not a huge fan of the fact that it needs a propane torch to get started.

This is the only gravity-fed #PelletStove I can find that allows you to cook on top, and it looks more like something you'd find in an industrial shop than a living room, and it does not exactly match my wife's aesthetic.

I would prefer to buy a #PelletStove, since they are clean burning and it is easy to store and load the fuel, but there are so few models that are gravity fed and work without electricity, and 90% of the reason we are getting a #stove is because we don't trust #PortlandGeneralElectric not to eventually leave us freezing without power for a full week.

Annoying how the electrical system in a #PelletStove is merely there to drop pellets into the fire like clockwork, but there are no pellet stoves for sale just just use actual #clockwork.

Why can't I just crank a handle to tighten a spring or raise a weight and have an escapement tick away dropping pellets as it goes?

The one #PelletStove that doesn't require electricity is this amazing looking gravity fed stove. However, the downside of this one is that it can't be lit using electricity (when available), so you need to keep a propane torch sitting around to get it started. https://www.usstove.com/stoves/pellet-stoves/wise-way-2000-sq-ft-non-electric-pellet-stove/

Since we installed a new heat pump in our house, we were planning on getting a #PelletStove in case the power goes out and takes our heat with it in a snow storm, but now I've learned that pretty much every pellet stove requires electricity to function. 🤦
