Back to #paxlovidmouth... the realization that the taste imparted reminded me of metallic #Cynar, an Italian aperitif derived partially from artichoke, I am conducting a brief sensory experiment.
As you may know, artichokes have a nifty quality, they mess with your taste! Cynarin and chlorogenic acid work together to latch to sweet taste receptors without activating them, but when later washed away (perhaps with neutral water) they activate them.
So it is in the fine print on paxlovid, a common side effect cited is an "altered sense of taste" (dysgeusia, for those in fancy pants.) It slips past the liver warnings and contraindicated drugs.
On the first day I was too miserable to care about it, by day 4, that taste is something I think about... What is it really? #paxlovidmouth
News flash: #COVID19 still sucks, even after 4 #vaccine doses and 1 prior infection. Day 3, and the impacts on my respiratory and GI systems are no joke.
At least this time, there is #Paxlovid and I don’t feel the symptoms nearly as much. I still don’t recommend it: #paxlovidmouth is a real thing.
