123/365 - composition photo walk
The wife and I couldn't pick a theme for today's photo walk. So I decided to try to focus on my composition. I put the camera on the auto settings and just tried to find things I wanted to frame.
I didn't give myself enough room to crop/edit in some. Some didn't look in camera what it looked like to my eye. And also my battery died before I could capture a better photo of the tall ship Pride of Baltimore II. le sigh But hey, it was a good learning experience. And that's why I'm doing this, right?!

Finished! I know I missed a day, so I only did 29 inks. But still ... cut me some slack! Writing sample:
Diamine Polar Glow
One of my absolute favorite inks. The sheen is perfect and shows up almost everywhere. This is a 50mL bottle and it's half gone. It takes a lot of writing to use that much ink (considering how many inks I have). Anyway, this is a great way to end this challenge. Birmingham Pen Co. Point Park Fountain Turquoise
Here's the ink I wanted to share! I think this was maybe ink 3 or 4 that I ever bought. I liked the Boiler Steam so I ordered this one. Pretty sure it has a shortened name now. And I know the bottles are different. I just love this color. And I loved supporting a small business from Pittsburgh. That's such a cool little city.

Almost done with this challenge! I found my very first bottled ink that I ever bought. What I forgot to mention in my writing sample is that Birmingham Pen Co. has since changed their bottles, label design, and even renamed (shortened) this ink:

I know I was going to post a teal ink by Birmingham, but I saw this bottle and had to share. This was my very first bottled ink I bought ... [redacted] years ago. Back then I sort of thought I would only want black inks. I wasn't even a fan of blue ballpoint pens. Oh how this hobby has changed me. Memmmorieees... Dipping my Nahvalur again. It frankly works really well as a dip pen.

Endless Alchemy Candy Sea
This ink has a fantastic sheen. I really hope it shows on this paper and in the photo. Their bottles are ... interesting too. Fun, but also annoying sometimes. They come with a cork base to keep them straight though. I'm dipping my Nahvalur pen and I've only dipped it once and was able to write this whole thing!

The wife and I took another photo walk with the dogs this morning. The Alexandria Half Marathon is coming through town so we walked down to Union St to watch for a little bit. Then we wandered around the rest of the town with no theme in mind.

It's independent bookstore day. So we visited a new bookstore up in Maryland. On the way home we stopped at Bertram's Inkwell (https://bertramsinkwell.com) and I picked up a few new things ... transcript:

The wife and I visited a new bookstore in Gaithersburg today. On the way home we stopped at Bertram's Inkwell and I picked up a new pen and a couple inks. The pen is this TWSBI Caffe Bronze with a Fine nib (yes, adding to my TWSBI collection).
The ink is a special ink for Bertram's Inkwell because the owner, Bert, had helped Organics Studio get started 13 years ago. This is a limited run and my box is marked at 9/100. I'll save the other new ink for tomorrow.

I grabbed the wrong bottle out of my drawer today. Oops. Writing sample:

I think I grabbed the wrong bottle because this is more green. Yup, I meant to get Glacier ... oh well, tomorrow. This was an Inkvent ink and is classified as a chameleon ink. I see shimmer, but maybe there's something else to it like a hidden sheen? Glad I'm at least using these Inkvent inks a little. Pretty sure they've sat in the drawer since I opened them.

Not so light, but still blue today. Here's my writing sample:
Sailor Manyo Koke
Another ink I forgot about. I'm finding some great colors that I always skip past to grab my favorites. This is almost a denim blue jeans color. Sailor inks are good performers too. Easy to write with even when dipping the pen.
