Perhaps a little too much because the new technological advance in the form of a television set enchants the neighbourhood's youth. Two brothers demand one too. A ★★★★½ review of Good Morning (1959)
Another superb Ozu film. Again, if only reality possessed that colour, we all would be happier. Everybody is moving, in transit, in modern Japan (which doesn't exist anymore) and this is filmed beautifully. But modernisation has its discontents, especially amongst the youngest who crave the new technology of television. Lovely story with all sorts of subtle hints about love and the pretences of adulthood. The main child actors are surprisingly good and the final scene at the station is pure cinema.
